Philippine: Arrested ex-President Duterte to face legacy of thousands killed in drug crackdown

Philippine ex-President Rodrigo Duterte, who left a savage legacy from his deadly anti-drugs crackdown, was arrested on a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity for the thousands killed in a war he waged against drugs in a political career spanning decades. His detention capped an international investigation into the killings, which unfolded for more than a dozen years. France 24’s Philip Sherwell has more from Manila.

Why spend millions of taxpayers money in sending duterte to the ICC? Do the courts in the Philippines can not handle the case for allgedly killing 44 people?

  35. President Duterte is a beloved politician in the PH. He saved so many lives, not only the innocent but drug addicts who willingly brought themselves to rehab. ICC and currenr President planned his abduction. We condemn this unjust action of the institution that's supposed to value justice. ICC needs to return our President back alive.

  36. Former President Duterte, always reiterated in his speech that he hated drugs who destroy his people and his country. He is the only strong leader in the Philippines who declared an all-out war on drugs, fighting corruption, oligarchs, and communist. His action gained millions of supports from the people. This is also the reason why he still got the highest approval ratings from the people he served, from the start up to the end of his tenure. Unfortunately, the son of the former dictator MARCOS, the seating president now turned the tide, 360 degrees, drugs now were rampant, corrupt government officials squandered the people’s money at their disposal using it to bribe their cohorts. Oligarchs were happy now and even the communist were invaded the Philippine congress trying to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte who got 32 million votes. President Marcos cannot win the Presidency without Sara, but he tricked Sara to support him. And now that he is in Power Marcos tried all his best to eliminate the Duterte’s. The Philippines are now in doomed. We are now governed by minorities who have power. President Rodrigo Duterte’s legacy cannot be erased in the people’s mind from generation to generation. Now he is destined to became a hero and patriot by persecuting him with the crime that doesn’t exit. Only Filipinos know the truth.
