(INMO) has said mandatory mask-wearing should be reintroduced in indoor settings.

  1. For such a simple but extremely effective measure, removing the mandatory requirement was a serious miscalculated move IMO.

We all know it was never properly enforced anyways so people would just continue to do what they do anyways.

The only thing removing “mandatory” was create a false sense of reality that made people think covid was gone for good.

  2. Definitely feels like we should have stayed at the stage where Everywhere was open but mask wearing in crowded places was required. Feels like everything was going smoothly then but we got cocky and jumped the gun for a cheap political win.

Country is riddled with COVID now since mask requirements dropped. First 2 weeks where grand but the buses are packed with maskless feckers each morning now.

  3. Please God no. Government needs to stick to their guns on this. 50 ish in ICU right now – that’s nothing. Doesn’t matter how many people get COVID if it’s not killing or seriously fucking people up. Catching it is unavoidable at this stage even with masks.

The summer is coming along with 4th boosters. There is absolutely no need for mask mandates. If the situation starts looking bad then fine, but high cases is just not enough justification imo.

Edit: gonna stop replying now but people really are desperate to control others with zero justification. Honestly frightens me a bit. I just want everyone to be allowed do what they want, that’s it.

  4. At this stage it should remain a personal choice, ICU’s aren’t overflowing with the unvaccinated, reintroducing lockdown measures or mandatory mask wearing while a war goes on in Eastern Europe with millions displaced isn’t exactly what I’d call a fun world to be living in, the last few years have been miserable on a societal level let’s not put ourselves back there

  5. As much sense as this would make, the train has left the station. I’m happy to continue wearing a mask, but good luck getting everyone else to put them back on.

  6. Lads, instead of all the bickering in the comments, just wear a mask if you want to and don’t wear one if you don’t (unless mask mandates are reintroduced than there’s really no choice).

  7. Ms Ní Sheaghdha should focus on her usual job of trying to bleed the tax payer dry rather than spouting misinformation on mask wearing. How could she possibly know if it has or hasn’t contributed to increased cases

  8. Italy, Scotland, and Germany all retained mask mandates and have higher cases than ours. Sweden never had a mandate and have lower cases than ours.

Imagine believing a piece of cloth has any discernible impact on Covid.

  9. The entire covid situation has been criminally mishandled from start to finish by the government. People need to be in jail for this. Restrictions too strict at the wrong times, too lax in the wrong times, the wrong things closed down, the wrong things left open. Lifting the masks was the final nail.

The low mortality rate compared to other nations is an entirely seperate point and is owed to high vaccination rates.

  10. >“The good news is that in Denmark, which was the country to first experience this Omicron plus sub-lineage, they’re now seeing cases fall very substantially and we expect that to happen here in a few weeks’ time.”

Sounds like there’s not much to worry about, Luke O’Neill via Claire Byrne is spreading fear porn as usual.

  11. Agree. It’s just lovely shopping in Tesco & the staff member is coughing up a lung, into their hand, while staking shelves, not wearing a mask. /s

  12. Just back from the UK and there’s signs up everywhere saying you should wear a mask on public transport etc and nobody does, I assume the same will happen here if we re-introduce.

  13. I was fucked if i do fucked if i dont and id say many were the same…I wore the mask at work every day for the duration of necessity and after my 3rd sinus infection that led to nasal drip and antibiotics, something had to give. I switched to a visor and caught covid within 3 days!! That may be entirely coincidental of course, but it seemed the masks did help. Tried wearing one for 30 minutes shopping the other day and sinus were full of pus again…. whats a guy to do?🤷‍♂️

  14. I love how the BA.2 variant and its 30 percent increased transmissibility is completely ignored by those who are suggesting a return of the mask mandate. Even if we had still had masks there would still be a massive increase in cases. Why do I think this? Well first and foremost take one look across the water at Scotland who are experiencing the exact same increase in cases as ourselves despite still having the mask mandate. The way I see it is if one wants to wear a mask then so be it and if one doesn’t want to wear it when they don’t have to then that is fine as well. But, what I see a lot of in this thread is people that aren’t wearing masks being described as filthy or dirty which is very unfair in my opinion. So really best thing can say is do what makes you feel comfortable, be respectful of others and live and let live.

  15. I’m going to sound like a little bitch. I’m in the construction industry and wearing masks in hot data centers is disgusting for up to 8 hours a day. That’s going to be a no from me.

  16. I where my mask still, keeps my nose warm and keeps me happy. It also means I don’t necessarily need a shave as often. Win, win , win. Like there painless so I don’t see many disadvantages honestly. I actually forgot to take mine off when I got home one day and only noticed when getting a drink. I’ll just do my thing and hope for the best.

  17. After my first bug in 2y, I’d forgotten the misery of it, so actually I think I’d be happy enough to put them back on in shops and transport anyway.

  18. Considering the countries with mask mandates are seeing a similar surge in cases I am of the view that the impact of masks is very marginal at best.

  19. I like the fact that wearing a mask is by choice, however, I did get covid a week ago and it was due to my mother not wearing a mask at work (it was the first time she took it off at work, then both me and her got covid days later, she only works weekends so it had to be here). So I do think wearing a mask is effective, even if SLIGHT.

  20. The management in our job said today we need to start wearing masks again, and you know what happened?

Everyone started wearing masks because it’s not a big fucking deal.

  21. I would agree that masks should be brought back in. Its only a mask at the end of the day. You can still go to the shops, cinema, whatever.

It’s all knock on effects. If masks reduce covid then it will benefit you in other ways. Hate going in to your local Lidl and the shelves are empty? That could be short staffed cause a few are out with covid. Annoyed you have extra work on cause a few are out with covid? Masks would reduce that. Not the best of examples but you get the idea.
