Monday morning, antisemitic symbols and profanity were found scrawled on vehicles and the building’s exterior.
ENCINITAS, Calif. — San Diego Sheriff’s investigators are looking into vandalism at the Tesla dealership in Encinitas where antisemitic symbols and profanity were found scrawled on vehicles and the building’s exterior.
The incident comes amid growing criticism against Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who has been making sweeping cuts as head of the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency.
The vandalism, which has since been cleaned up, included swastikas and profanity on both the glass exterior of the dealership and at least one vehicle, according to photos provided by a viewer.
This incident is part of a series of vandalism cases across the country targeting Tesla vehicles, dealerships and charging stations.
“Our real activism is directed against Trump. We want him to fire Elon. We want him to dismantle DOGE, and we want him to return the power of the purse to Congress,” said Wendy Gelernter, a member of the group Swing Left Take Action San Diego.
The organization helped organize a rally outside the Encinitas Tesla dealership on Saturday that attracted hundreds of protesters. Demonstrators expressed concerns about current and potential cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and veterans health benefits.
“That was the main purpose of this rally, was to bring to the public’s attention what we think are very dangerous and damaging actions,” Gelernter said.
She emphasized that the demonstration was peaceful and condemned the vandalism that followed.
“Of course, we totally deplore that. We’re against any form of vandalism. It goes against everything that we’re there for, which is to avoid damage, and to avoid danger, and to avoid confrontation,” she said.
The San Diego Sheriff’s Department confirmed they have surveillance video and are investigating the incident. According to authorities, multiple cars and windows were vandalized. No arrests have been made.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.
