The Trump administration’s decision to shut down Radio Liberty marked the end of an era in 23 countries, where its 70-year presence had been — and in some places, still is — the only voice of democracy.
Stanislav Aseyev reported on the realities of Russia’s 2014 occupation of eastern Ukraine for Radio Liberty. In 2017, as a result of his reporting, he was kidnapped by Russian-backed militants and held captive for nearly three years, enduring torture.
