At first glance, it may seem imposing. The Four Seasons Astir Palace is massive, both in physicality and reputation. With a legacy dating back to 1958, the guest list includes names like Nelson Mandela and Jackie Kennedy. But from the very moment of arrival, our Inspectors felt a welcoming, laid-back, leisurely vibe at this historic beachfront site that more or less invented the modern Athens Riviera, a glamorous stretch of coastline just outside the capital.

Island Mentality
The Acro Suites on the island of Crete sport some rooms carved into stone caves.
Over two-thirds of the Greek hotels on this list make their homes on Greek islands, a testament to the incredible appeal of the many archipelagos under the Greek flag. Some of these hotels represent the very best of what travelers expect from utopian settings like Mykonos and Santorini.
