The Trump administration delivered a pure bitch slap to the government. I thought the meeting with Martin went okay with no obvious gaffes and presumed with many that the reason why it was not on the 17^(th) was logistical with Trump being busy or something.
However inviting McGregor to the White House on the 17^(th) instead of Martin, Irish politicians and government officials speaks volumes. There is no doubt a panic in Dublin over this.
And the government can’t really say a thing, they were invited, it was cordial but the president wanted a different Irishman on Saint Patrick’s Day.
McGregor’s talk was cringeworthy at times the whole big brother crap but there was a ribbon of truth to some of the points he made. Now I have no doubt that his remarks were self-serving and he put his own spin on them but still.
And the government can’t say very much. If they do more people will look at the speech and ask questions about his points which the government do not want to or can’t answer. If they have any sense, they will say the minimum and not draw much attention to the whole thing. If they criticise the invitation, Trump could take it as a personal attack on him and infuriating a volatile vengeful person ahead of a trade war that could decimate the economy is a bad move.
I don’t like McGregor, his persona or the alleged crimes around him but I can appreciate a good political stroke.
In spite of what people think McGregor will never get to stand for the Irish presidency he will never get nominated which is a good thing. I think his angle was to restore some of his image internationally.
Just when you think Trump can’t get any shallower, he manages to squeeze a bit more out of that pool

Ireland needs to make sure CMcG gets everything he does wrong on his record to make sure he can’t run for any position in the future. I hope we learn from Trump’s example. They had every possible opportunity to lock him up on time
McGregor appeals to the average trump voter, the sad thing is the bulk of them don’t realise they’re being scammed
He’s literally a convicted violent rapist, I think we’re well past toxic masculinity there.
Two cunts and oxygen thieves.
Trump, McGregor, Musk……….not a fucking single moral between them. If Epstein was alive he’d be in the middle of them.
“Conor McGregor ‘represents the very worst of toxic masculinity'”
In fairness, sums it up…..
Toxic masculinity. Example
I was in a Cork town yesterday. At red lights. In my car. I noticed these three “dudes” to the left of me. Walking like Mcgregor. You all know the walk at this stage. in their early twenties.
I noticed they were “staring” at something across the road. I then noticed this girl, could only be around 18 or 19 on the other side. In high heel boots. Out in town etc.
They looked at her like a piece of fuckin steak. I was a bit taken back with the level of staring at this girl. Creepy. Just so creepy. And in the middle of a town.
It’s nuts the direction we are going…..
Masculinity in itself is not at all toxic, that’s not to excuse what a scumbag McGregor is.
Waiting for McGregor to go on Instagram now with the words “Fight me Harris”
I do not enjoy these FFFGers being right about stuff.
and yet himself and michéal have no problem visiting a president who not only gives credence to people like McGregor but actually encourages their way of thinking.
What would Harris know about masculinity?
He represents the very worst of scrotes.
Conor McGregor is an asshole to the bone, which of course explains why Trump wants to be pals and thinks he’s cool.
The very worst of toxic masculinity … nnonono he represents the very worst of humanity.
There’s some small comfort to be taken that McGregor himself is in a social media bubble where he is being hyped by the fascist American right, seemingly unaware how much he is utterly *loathed* by the majority here at home.
Him getting booed at Limp Bizkit in Dublin was a small crack of light being let in there, I wonder if it shook him.
Simon digging into his big bag of buzzwords.
That’s 3 stories now on r/Ireland. Stop posting about him
He’s a festering anal polyp.
God damn it, now the fucking Yanks are making me agree with Simon Harris
