The Pittsburgh Penguins and Nashville Predators will face off in a pair of 2025-26 NHL regular-season games in Stockholm, Sweden, later this year.
The NHL announced Tuesday that the Penguins and Predators will clash at Avicii Arena in Stockholm on Nov. 14 and Nov. 16.
It will mark only the second time Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby has played NHL regular-season games in Sweden, as he and the Pens split a pair of contests against the Ottawa Senators back in 2008.
The 37-year-old Crosby is in the midst of his 20th NHL season, and he still remains one of the best players in the league.
Through 67 games this season, he is well above a point-per-game pace with 23 goals and 50 assists for 73 points.
For his career, Crosby has 615 goals and 1,054 assists for 1,669 points in 1,339 games, placing him 18th on the all-time goals list, 10th in assists and ninth in points.
The legendary center is also a 10-time All-Star, two-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner as NHL MVP, two-time Conn Smythe Trophy winner as playoff MVP, two-time Art Ross Trophy winner as the league’s leading point scorer, two-time Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy winner as the NHL’s leading goal scorer and a three-time Stanley Cup champion.
While the Swedish fans will undoubtedly be excited to see Crosby play live, they are also in line to see multiple compatriots in November.
Two of the Penguins’ best players are Swedes in defenseman Erik Karlsson and forward Rickard Rakell. Also, Predators star forward Filip Forsberg is from Sweden, as is defenseman Adam Wilsby.
Rakell expressed excitement over the opportunity to play meaningful NHL games in his home country, saying:
“I think it becomes a big thing for us. I think [it’s special] just to have a chance to play in your home country or play in front of, like, your youth team or old coaches that you had growing up. For you to have a chance to have family or friends come and see you and your teammates play, I think it’s a pretty special thing.”
Rakell is a 13-year NHL veteran who is trending toward one of the best years of his career this season with 31 goals and 28 assists for 59 points through 68 games.
Karlsson, 34, is No. 2 on the all-time NHL scoring list among Sweden-born defensemen with 866 points in 1,071 games. He continues to play at a high level as well with 49 points in 69 games this season.
The 30-year-old Forsberg has been in the conversation as the NHL’s best active Swedish player for quite some time thanks to his 664 points in 764 career games, including 25 goals and 34 assists for 59 points in 66 games this season.
Barring trade or injury; Rakell, Karlsson and Forsberg will all get the chance to perform in front of their countrymen and countrywomen next fall.
