Ah more censorship, spying and control. All while our children are raped and tortured with the full complicity of the courts, state, media, government and police
Can we have safety laws for Media outlets and so called journalists? Rage bait, lies and misinformation should be charged at writer level.
This will have absolutely no effect on the availability of child porn on the Internet. All it will do is make it harder for uninformed users to access forums and some porn.
You may as well try and clean the Atlantic Ocean with a sieve.
I think we already know that we are past peak/fun internet.
The internet is too embedded in our everyday lives. Now to the point they make washing machines which need to be online to be operated.
Where once internet companies looked like a way to disrupt monopolies those same companies are now even bigger monopolies.
Maybe social media websites were never fun, but they’re certainly not now. The majority serve up a mix of negative content and AI slop to generate clicks and views, whilst the rest are literal soap boxes for billionaires to influence our political system.
However much the big tech companies complain about this. We all know that this act will not do anything to actually stop for negative harms of their websites.
The negative impacts of this censorship will never be less than what it should but doesn’t touch.
If I was a young person today with a healthy social circle, I will stay offline as much as is possible
What difference will any of this make to the growing number of users (including children) accessing the dark Web? I didn’t see any mention of the restriction of Tor.
Don’t get me wrong, social media giants should be held accountable for what is shared on their sites/apps, but this will not make the Internet safer it will just drive more of the harmful stuff into the shadows while still leaving them perfectly accessible.
More Censorship
How about we think bigger with this act, let’s dissolve the monarchy and parliament since it’s an antiquated system not built for this current era?
A truly horrific piece of legislation.
When they have to literally say won’t someone think of the children…and very often give no more rationale…its worrying.
>UK’s Online Control Act comes into force
FTFY!
Dreadful piece of legislation drawn up by Legislators and Civil Servants who are clueless about the real issues.
