>The “30 Rock” creator, former “Saturday Night Live” alum and nine-time Emmy winner revealed during a guest appearance on longtime friend and collaborator Amy Poehler‘s new podcast, “Good Hang with Amy Poehler,” that she has no interest in starting her own “side hustle.” As a matter of fact, she actually judges her fellow celebrities who do.
>“You have incredible hair. I feel like you should have a hair campaign and also I’m always pushing you to have a glasses line,” Poehler told her friend. “Why do you not have a glasses line? [Do] you hate money?”
>“I do kind of hate money,” Fey joked. “I’m terrible with money only in that I don’t waste money but I don’t get excited about money.” She then admitted, “I have a problem with rich people having a side hustle.” While Poehler jokingly asked if she was referring to a friend starting a podcast, she quickly conceded, “I know what you mean — like if I had a rosé.”
>“Yeah, if you already have like $200 million … I judge it,” Fey explained.
>Poehler understood where Fey was coming from, but she also urged her fellow former “SNL” star to move past her own misgivings and get with the times. “Tina, this is where you have to learn from Gen Z,” Poehler said. “They don’t judge it! You should stop, because this is the thing now. You have to have a million [things]. You have to have glasses!”
Was this OG Tina Fey or was it one of her Booking.com body doubles?
What, like commercials for a travel company?
She could partner with Walton Goggins Goggle Glasses.
Kylie Jenner’s cosmetics brand has 28 million social followers. Fenty has 15 million.
…well she’s not secretly judging now that it’s on the web.
this lady seems like a real drag
Guess she forgot about that time she did a Garnier Nurtisse hair campaign.
I have a lot of respect for that. I think some celebs get a pass when its something they really seem passionate and involved in but when it’s just so clearly them slapping their name on a product I understand the side eye. It feels like a greedy cash grab that preys on the common folks parasocial relationship with the celeb.
Well I judge her for doing non-publicized big pharma corporate gigs
She does have a “I’m better than everyone” attitude, doesn’t she
I openly judge her for being a weird bigot
I didn’t understand her logic tho, what’s wrong about starting your own business. It is better than endorsing something u don’t even use or know what it is made up of
Then what’s Faygo, Tina?!
People in here getting confused between doing commercials and having your own gin or makeup line. Also missing the point where she’s talking primarily about the mega-rich celebrities that are trying to go from hundred-millionaires to billionaires by having side-hustles. She was also just responding to a question about why she isn’t trying to milk more money from her celebrity.
Tina Fey is a deeply weird, problematic, and misogynistic person. She is not a girl’s girl and it disturbs me how many jokes in 30 Rock are basically “Look, a Black person who is smart, isn’t that FUNNY?????”.
Honestly I respect it. Lately it seems like celebrities are trying to suck every last piece of money off the bone.
Let someone else own a cheesesteak spot! The recent trend of famous people seemingly trying to prove to the rest of us that they have a “billionaire mindset” is corny
people coming for her with weak points thinking they did something lol
Celebrity endorsements mean nothing to me as I know 90% of the time they don’t use their product. I judge people mainly on how they act, not what they say they do.
If you endorse a product that you don’t use, it means you and the product is dead to me.
Seems like such an arbitrary line. I’d say all the commercials for mega corporation I’ve seen her in is worse then creating your own product to sell especially if it’s something they’re passionate about which i realize a lot of celebrity products aren’t necessarily that but at least it’s something of their own. There’s certainly an argument to be made that the majority of celebrities are rich beyond their means already and don’t need to be doing anything extra like that at all commercials or side projects.
Not all actors make a living doing the thing. It’s usually acting, then going back to work. And when they do get acting, they have to stock up for when the audiences/agents get bored and the money eventually runs out. So I don’t feel too bad when actors gotta pay the bills. And big names and people employ a lot of people.
But I do think there is something to be said about someone like her who recognizes they have enough and that you don’t have to do a Turbo Tax commercial or have a reality show to promote your brand and make way too much money. Like it’s okay for someone in her position to just do the thing you do well and live life without the distractions of wealth.
The bottom could fall out at any time if you’re in show business. And with side hustles they don’t have to accept bad shows to pay the bills. Tina Fey has writer, producer, actor income. She hedges her bets.
This feels like a shot at Lisa Loeb
As long as it’s not supplements.
Why by very rich then you can just be rich?
Haha she’s always on point.
Not so secret anymore…
Ryan Reynolds getting hit from all sides.
I can appreciate it when the celebrity puts some real effort into creating a good product.
I think the celebrity I respect the most for their side hustles is Selena Gomez. I like her just fine, but let’s be real, she’s not a particularly good pop artist or actress. I’m not sure how long her fame will last, or how respected her acting/music career will be.
But she realized that she had fame and a fan following as an asset, and leveraged that to create some fun chatty foodie shows, and a high quality makeup brand. She’ll never really worry about losing her popularity as an actress or musician, at least not in terms of maintaining her lifestyle. It just strikes me as very clever; I appreciate it in a way. I also appreciate that her product is GOOD. She’s definitely put some effort into hiring the right people, at the very least.
This isn’t news.
