For Canada, overseas allies trump ‘bullies’: Carney ‘reaches out to UK, France & more broadly to EU’

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Monday warned his country must reduce its reliance on the United States and would turn towards its “reliable” European allies instead on his first trip abroad.   1. But EU itself is under the shadow of USA, Ukraine is the proof. Without USA, coalition of willing, G7, NATO 5 eyes….. all are just irrelevant paper tigers. The Russian had just walk over Ukraine and re taken all the lost territories. The coalition of willing could do nothing , just keep talking.

Fix your infrastructure, control inflation, house the homeless, keep your cities clean, maintain afford public health care and medical services, keep the children from obesity, stimulate students’ interest in mathematics and science. Only then start talking about the alliance. This is an advise from a humble Chinese.

  6. We need a new Military alliance without US. Just Non-US NATO-states plus Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea.

  12. Looks like the so-called Western world is coming to terms with their new altered reality, which brings to mind a number of old truisms. When someone (trump) tells (or shows) you who they are, believe them the first time. If you don't look after yourself, who will? The best defence is a strong offence.

  13. America used to be the inspiration for the world. Now they're alone and backwards, and they seem to prefer it that way.
    As hard as it will be, we must go on without them.

  16. 90% of Canada's trade is with the USA. Canada will never place that volume of trade with Europe. Yes, expand our international trade but in the short-term we need to heal our relationship with the USA and counter tariffs and threats from Carney and Ford make it worse not better.
    When you try to stand up to a bully, when you are much smaller and weaker, it accomplishes only one thing….. and you lose your lunch money as well!

    There is only one way to deal with Trump – meet with him to ask what Canada needs to do to avoid tariffs, and come with recommendations.

    1. End Canada's milk quota system – this is personal for Trump.

    2. Meet our commitments to NORAD and NATO immediately. At our current 1% of GDP on military spending Canada is not even close to meeting NATO's requirement of 2%.

    3. You cannot be considered a nation unless you can defend and secure your borders. Canada under the Liberals have done neither. They have financially gutted the military, CSIS, the RCMP, and Customs Border Security. Renting two helicopters and appointing one of Trudeau's buddies to the new, highly paid position of drug czar does nothing.

  21. Terrible, be very wary of the devil's little brother (Canada).
    Europe should be practicing precautionary measures when it comes to dealing with Canada and certain other countries cough India *cough*.
    I know resources and labor as well as exchange of vital informations is needed, but you cannot trust such a country who are nothing but a puppet with multiple ventriloquists…

  27. Great news. Now Canada can replace ALL American troops and equipment in the EU.
    Let Canada replace USA in NATO. That will save Americans Billions of dollars.
    USA will also give United Nation to EU. what city, Paris or Berlin?
    America is little tired being EU's piggybank.

  30. Canada seems confused between US, China and Europe. Not sure where it's heading. It has to make up it's mind as natural resources new transport needs infrastructure expenditure.
