Monica Lennon Labour MSP: Extremely sorry Neil Findlay has left the Labour Party after 35 years of membership. The UK government is going in the wrong direction on welfare. For the sake of my constituents, I urge ministers to stop the cuts to disabled people.
It’s the Labour Party – same Party that she is a member of.
The Labour Party really are going about things absolutely arseways.
I absolutely agree that the welfare situation in the UK is worrying and unsustainable. But straight up cutting/restricting access to support is *not* the way to go about addressing it.
There is clearly a significant issues post-pandemic. Other European countries saw the same impact, particularly in the youth, but since then have recovered… but the UK hasn’t. Before fucking over young people more the Labour Party ought to investigate why so many young people are suffering from the impact of poor mental health (and fuck Wes Streeting’s over-diagnosis nonsense).
Promoting it as a “we need to save money” effort is just madness, and is exactly why we’re, rightly, seeing such a backlash from Labour MPs and the public. They have completely lost the conversation from the outset because they completely misjudged their own party and the public… because they are too consumed with listening to and appealing to the reform/tory types whose votes they’ve chased. For ordinary decent Labour supporters who have swallowed so much shit recently because they thought they needed to to get Labour into power to do things right… this is bound to be the straw that broke the camel’s back.
They have *tried* to reclaim the conversation somewhat, saying the money saved will go into helping people… but they fucked this up too. They needed to investigate what the root cause of these peoples are first (they didn’t), come up with viable solutions (they haven’t) and then announce the changed, wrapping them in a shroud of care and positive change. Instead they went with “saving money”… and it flopped.
Why did this happen? Because Starmer is running a closed shop. He’s not being challenged or allowing challenged of those he’s empowered. The cabinet are his allies and they do what they want, what he wants, and then when it’s released it’s a fucking disaster and they have to row back on it. Over and over again.
The challenges they face are real. Not all the actions they have taken are inherently bad (however, this one is) but time and time again they are absolutely fucking it and in doing so have compelling lost the good will of the public who, for a time, would have given them the benefit of doubt and who, for a time, did accept that the country was in a bad state… that good will is gone now.
The government has been coasting in the wrong direction on welfare for decades and a firm correction is long overdue.
Unfortunately, many people can see past “benefit cuts” 😭
You have a moral duty deep down ask yourself did you join the Labour Party to rob Pensioners, disabled, the sick. Yet for years your party said tax the rich, tax the non-dom but they are ignored. Your multiple millionaire lier Starmer keeping too close for comfort Lord Ali his billionaire sponsor happy. Let’s not write what London cab drivers say about Starmer & Lord Ali’s relationship that could land me in jail. Starmer’s Rightwing movement has taken away free speech. Unforgivable.
There’s a **£37billion** a year gap between what HMRC reckons should be paid in tax and what is being paid in tax.
A responsible Government may want to start there.
There’s **£50billion** a year of taxpayers’ money being given to greedy Landlords. We call this “housing benefit”, which only exists because rents are way above what an actual open market could sustain.
A responsible Government may want to do something about that.
Same goes for “winter fuel allowance” which is taxpayers’ money being used to generate record profits for the energy companies instead of putting a price cap on residences with purely retired residents (or retirees and carers)
But NAH, let’s kick those at the bottom instead.
“For the sake of my constituents and not my bank balance promise I intend to yap and do fuck all about it, as per.”
Genuinely surprised she hasn’t been purged from the party yet, though that may come.
If she did jump, where would she go?
She’s not pro-independence (and is potentially too left wing for the SNP as well) so won’t join them. There is a vacuum on the left…
It’s funny how none of the Labour politicians currently taking a wage quit, they always find morality after the money stops.
I would be interested to know what proportion of the Labour party believe they are a party looking to help the working classes and what proportion are the post NuLabour right wing types like the present UK government?

Some Red Tories are shiteing it.
So she’s going to quit the party too, right?
Right?
