British Gas boss gets 29% pay boost as customer bills jump

1. The British Gas share price is up 232% in the last five years and he deserves a huge pay rise for producing those returns for shareholders. That is his job after all.

   That said, I think the whole thing is disgusting. We have an energy regulator that sets energy prices based on the wholesale gas price. It goes up like a rocket when the wholesale price increases and drops like a feather in the opposite direction – same way our petrol prices do. This has allowed energy companies like British Gas to make enormous profits. We should never have privatised this company.

2. I’m surprised he was on less than a million before the rise. No wonder the best talent in the UK goes elsewhere.

3. Government really need to step in on this, but we know they won’t as it’s all their pals pockets that are being lined.

4. The lowest co2 producing country out of all the major western economies.

   Billions spent on renewable energy.

   Highest energy prices in the world.

   We did it Patrick, we stopped climate change!

   Now excuse me while I hope in my car that’s been shipped from Germany to drive to the supermarket to buy lamb shipped from new Zealand and tomatoes shipped from Morocco and avocados from mexico to make my lunch while I wait for my Temu packages from China to arrive .

5. I’m always intrigued by comments that call for energy companies to be brought back in to public ownership because of the cost of energy to the public.
   The CEO of Tesco earns just as much as Chris O’Shea and we have food banks in the UK because of the cost of food.
   Why does nobody call for publicly owned supermarkets?

6. They shit on my family and left me and my twin 1 year olds without heat or water, then tried to sell me extra services, I cannot stress enough how shit they are

7. Or perhaps realise you really don’t need all that money and put it back into charities or community efforts.

   Here’s an idea, how about he actually gets taxed on his obscene wealth.

8. This is what happened when we sanction Russia our energy provider.  What was the purpose of that again? To stop Russia from funding the war? Has it worked? Why do these morons in power still have jobs when all this happened is they have bankrupted us.

11. Love this comment thread. Many pro many against it. But in reality we’re all getting a good dicking anyway. Let that be private or government owned. None of us are getting pay rises like the rich.
