1. Why would Britain agree to anything?

   We respect Ukraine’s sovereignty.

   They need to agree things first.

   Plus Putin hates Britain. Everything is our fault.

5. As well as they shouldn’t nor should any sane country wanting to help. So far this is the stupidest peace negotiation by the stupidest president who couldn’t care less about Ukraine. His true goal is to have his frail ego stroked with a delusional fantasy of getting a noble peace prize.

9. As far as I have read no nation agreed to the suspension of supplying Ukraine, other than the US. And the US has no authority to speak for other nations.

11. The problem with a peace deal is that Russia has shown time and time again that they don’t care about peace deals. The whole reason that Ukraine didn’t have an army and wasn’t part of the UN is because they made a peace deal with Russia. Russia then broke that deal when they invaded Crimea in 2014. Ukraine then rightfully tried to join the UN for protection since it was clear they weren’t actually safe and Russia falsely claims that’s why they invaded three years ago.

    Any competent world leader would understand that Russia can’t be trusted. Any peace deal that involves Ukraine not joining the EU or not getting aid is just a poor attempt at pausing the combat so Russia can regroup and attack later. The only country that actually believes Putin is the US and that’s only because Trump and his cronies are absolute morons that don’t care about Ukraine.

12. Why should anyone? All Russia is promising is to stop the shooting, while they rearm, and Ukraine has to just sit and wait for Russia to be ready to attack again.

    Russia and the U.S. have agreed on an idea of a partial ceasefire, that has yet to be accepted by Ukraine, let alone go into effect

20. I distinctively remember Putin and Lavrov joking about how “Ukraine and Europe are not important enough” to be at the table.

    If we’re not at the table, why the fuck should we stick to anything *agreed* at said table? You attacked an European nation. We’re answering. If Zelensky asks for help, he’ll get it.

    What happened? Suddenly realized we won’t back the fuck down when you attack our partners?

21. The talk of a ceasefire was always just a ploy. Putin wants to look like he’s offering the West a peaceful solution, so when it doesnt happen, he can make out to his own people that it is western aggressors who refuse to back down, or let Russia put an end to the conflict. Russia has no choice but to continue the war. It’s probably the only aspect to the war Russia has been planning well.

    This is why I disagree that Trump is (actively) a Russian asset. I think he’s just a useful idiot in his current form. He does these calls to Russia that achieve nothing, Russia always intend on walking away, but he gets to think Putin and Russia respect him, and he can be this great peace broker. He probably genuinely thinks he can get some peace deal and assets for the US in the form of minerals.

    Russia has 0 intention of letting the US claim those valuable rare earth minerals, considering that’s a major incentive behind Russia’s interest in Ukraine. But in making the US’s investment in Ukraine being tied to those assets so public, it also furthers Russian narratives that the US (and West to a greater extent) just want Ukraine for selfish reasons, while the Russians want to liberate, and reunite its people to the Motherland.

22. Britain was not involved in those discussions. As far as the UK is concerned they never happened.

23. Wouldn’t russia need to propose something of equal value to compensate the loss of the aid from all nations if that is their stance?

24. Because that’s not a ceasefire, that’s effectively an unconditional surrender.

25. Just because Trump’s polishing Putin’s pole, doesn’t mean Britain should be expected to swallow.
