Israel threatens ‘total destruction’ in Gaza with ceasefire on brink

1. Israel warned of “total destruction” as it launched a new ground operation in Gaza, threatening to drag both sides back to all-out war and all but collapsing January’s ceasefire deal with Hamas.

   Israel’s military retook territory it had ceded as part of the ceasefire — which had largely held — a day after 400 Palestinians were killed by airstrikes in one of the deadliest episodes since the conflict began.

   Another 38 Gazans died on Wednesday, according to the Hamas-run health ministry, and Israel prepared to issue fresh evacuation orders for combat zones in the territory

2. All so pointless given that Netanyahu is unwilling to move to stage 2 of a deal, Hamas at this point has close to no interest in longterm ceasefire if Israel is unwillingly to grant anything they want like the Philadephia corridor or an end to the war.

3. Threatened total destruction? Have they actually left anything standing? Last few pictures I saw made Gaza look pretty post-apocalyptic already.

4. The ceasefire ended, in part because Hamas refuses to release the hostages it continues to hold. Israel is under no obligation to honor the empty space where a ceasefire would be if that ceasefire had not expired.

5. Yes, and that’s entirely on Hamas.

   If you saw them parade the dead bodies of the Bibas babies, while handing out candy to their children and proudly live streaming it… and still sympathize with Gaza, you’re an imbecile.

6. Regardless of whether you sympathise with Palestine more or Israel more, it’s sad to see all of these Palestinian children being blown up.

7. So… Tuesday? This was always their goal. Anyone telling you otherwise was gaslighting you.
