It's… OK. I've been wanting to try it out for the longest time.
I used white sandwich bread, original Branston pickle, and sharp cheddar slices.
Have I done right? How can I improve?

You have too little pickle, and too little cheese, and you didn’t mention the butter, and it looks like it might be missing… but otherwise spot on.
Really should be cheese first then the pickle.
That looks like one of those permanently stale cheapo sandwiches you get from dodgy newsagents
It’s not ^cheese and ^pickle
It’s
#cheese
And
#pickle
You have all the right ingredients just in the wrong quantities
You need crusty bread, big chunks of cheddar cheese, and a thick covering of branston pickle imo. If you are taking them into work for lunch then consider buttering the bread so that it does not become soggy from Branston juice. If eating immediately I don’t bother with the butter.
If you can get a block of cheddar you can cut thicker slices which will make it better. Spread the pickle as evenly as possible and use as much or as little to taste. Remember butter.
On r/Sandwiches all I see are these monstrous creations with INCHES of cheese and processed meat coming from America. I’m not saying do it like that. But a happy medium will make this sandwich better. Good first effort.
Bread looks a bit naff, too thick and looks dry.
What is sharp cheddar?
Looks good to me, bonus points for the diagonal cut as we know it makes it taste better.
It does look bleak enough to be a British c&p sarnie.
You buttered with salted butter, yes?
You should double the fillings at least, add butter (mental that you don’t already imo) and use crusty sourdough bread
There’s a reason it’s called a cheese greater and it’s because it makes the cheese taste much greater when you use it. Otherwise it’s a solid effort.
If an elderly lady unwrapped that next to me on the bus I’d think, bless her, she’s lost her marbles and has no one to look after her. A single slice of cheese, poorly distributed pickle, no butter?! I’d cry for her and for how cruel life can be.
I’d say thicker slabs of cheese. Make sure there is butter on there too rather than considering mayo. Then add a packet of crisps and smush it down.
A decent cheese, grated, bit of butter, and pickle to tasre. You can do better.
Looks a lot like a sandwich you’d have bought in a British Rail buffet car circa 1979.
You really need some crunchy, thick-cut white bread and much thicker slices of cheese (sliced from a block of cheese, not slices). Pickle looks a decent show.
Sorry to be so critical but this is a serious business.
White bread, buttered. I prefer to grate the cheese (a mild or mature cheddar for me), pat it down to the extent it almost gets reformed, and then dollop the pickle (Branston, obvs) on-top without being shy about it. Made me want a cheese and pickle sandwich now, or maybe a ham and pickle sandwich…
You need to put pickle on both sides of the bread and use thicker slices of cheddar. Otherwise solid 8/10 effort
Sliced the cheese too well. Chunky and uneven is the way to go.
*Wipes tear* They’re learning.. my god they’re learning.
Go to a local pub and get a cheese and onion cob, with a decent ale.
Well now you have done it, I need to buy a jar of Branston next time I hit the grocery store.
You’ve done good, just waaaaay light on the cheese. Cheese is your best mate and pickle is an acquaintance
The cheese looks a bit thin …and rather as though it might be ready-sliced, processed, and rubbery …proper cheese needs plenty of pickle too!
Cheese and pickle basic
(Not being rude it’s a joke)
It’s still too American, you wrapped it in brown paper rather than use a lunch box.
Butter, grated cheese (don’t start me on this we all know it blends better) and full to the edges pickle. You must have ready salted crisps and a builders tea.
I love how the comments here are utterly universal. Correct ingredients, just **more**!
And butter.
People are definitely describing the ideal to you. Tesco probably sold 100k sandwiches that looked exactly like that today.
You’re getting a lot of flack here OP but I appreciate your effort. However there are some tips which include buttering the bread – not up for negotiation – much more cheese and much more pickle and you’ve nailed it
Of course if you’re me – which you’re not – you’d also smash some ready salted crisps in that (chips to you)
Got me craving one now. Not had one in years!
