Where are cats going to buy a cappuccino if this happens?
Force them out of a job and then call them useless eaters when they try to claim benefits. We really do live in a society.
I went to a cat cafe in London where all cats are rescue cats and from shelters. Anyone who is familiar with adopting cats from shelters knows that they can be so strict around adoption and these were cats from well known and reputable shelters. I spoke to the manager and the cats have areas that they can access away from the public if they’re stressed or overwhelmed through tunnels to separate rooms, and they’re pretty firm on not picking cats up or touching them when they very clearly don’t want to be petted.
There are definitely cat cafes which don’t value cat welfare at all and just want $$$, but I do also think there are ways to do it ethically. Open to hear other views though
If the RSPCA actually acted to prevent the real and horrific cruelty that is reported to them, I would take them seriously. All they do us talk.
Worse, talking about Cat Cafes (which at least help people to interface with animals) when there are thousands of animals truly suffering – that they know about and DO NOTHING!
It’s ok to slaughter and eat a cow, but having a cat in a cafe is morally wrong
The loonies really are running the asylum
Or perhaps, well regulated, as there are good ones as well as bad?
London every building should have at least one cat. Mice problem in the city is pretty bad in places
Of all the things that should be concentrated on regarding animal welfare, cat cafe are not top of the list.
The RSPCA could do so many useful things. Enforcing animal welfare on farms. Responding to public reports on abused animals quickly. Assisting injured wildlife.
Going after cats being cuddled in a cafe ain’t it.
People won’t donate if they focusing on silly things like this, rather than cases of actually cruelty like the beef industry.
No one said it was their job to convince the nation off beef, but if they are a serious animal welfare charity they should be focusing on cases of actually cruelty.
The RSPCA does great work, but their activism is a poorly-thought out ‘ban everything!’ approach that leaves everyone worse off for the sake of a handful of outliers.
RSPCA: Cat cafes are cruel and should be phased out.
Also RSPCA: Our RSPCA Assured logo means that all the animals on the farms we give Assured status to lived happy fluffy lives gambolling in the sunshine and absolutely definitely not being beaten and maltreated by inbreds while we rake in the money.
There is a debate going on right now about the rise in non-stun abattoirs across the UK.
I have seen video footage of one where “wolf sounds” were played to frightened sheep before they had their throats slit. Yes, this is happening in the UK.
Rather than speak up on these horrific animal abuses, the RSPCA decides instead to talk about cat cafés.
I would urge anyone donating to the RSPCA to stop and write to them about this horrific issue.
Yes, it’s politically sensitive, but if our leading animal charity doesn’t have the back of animals here, then it’s not fit for purpose and should lose its charity status.
RSPCA, the same organisation that approves grinding male chicks up alive or putting 6 month old pigs into gas chambers? That RSPCA?
Yeah, I don’t know how they expect to be taken seriously. Over the last 200 years that organisation has turned from the world’s largest animal rights & animal welfare charity into a marketing arm of the meat and dairy industry. How money corrupts.
Cats are curious, being at the cafe is enrichment. They probably have a better life than some that are just dumped at home all day with no interactions.
Some people on Reddit are to ideological, so many cats and dogs needs homes, if it’s a loving, warm well fed home that’s good enough. Not every pet can get 100% ideal conditions.
Would they rather it’s put down in some shelter because there’s no home for it, or live at a cafe?
If cats are unhappy in ANY way they will communicate that to you with extreme prejudice. Cat cafe cats are generally extremely content…
RSPCA..
Say many things.
The even said seagulls are endangered. I guess their office isn’t by the coast. Watching some Emmet’s throw food around and being followed by a swarm of bin juice vultures.
Anyone who feeds seagulls needs to be thrown into the sun
