As previously reported by LSM, Braže is currently on an important diplomatic and trade trip to the world’s most populous democratic country. Last year saw the opening of the Indian Embassy in Latvia in a sign of deepening relations.
According to the Central Statistical Bureau, Latvia’s total foreign trade turnover with India in 2024 was 371.4 million euros, an increase of 67.2% compared to 2023. Latvia’s exports of goods to India in 2024 were 58.4 million euros, an increase of 26.4% compared to 2023.
The ministers reportedly discussed both the possible conclusion of and support for the EU-India Free Trade Agreement, as well as transatlantic relations.
“Latvia and India are united by common democratic values and interests in respecting international law. We had a valuable conversation about achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine and containing Russia. This will affect both the security situation in Europe and the security and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region,” said Braže of the meeting.
