  1. Republican plans to scrap nearly all federal support for electric vehicles could kneecap the nascent industry, auto industry experts say, just when more Americans are considering buying an EV and car companies are planning big investments.

    “Everything that’s happening politically couldn’t have happened at a worse time from the point of view of EV adoption,” Ed Kim, president and chief analyst at the car market research firm AutoPacific, said in an interview.

    Ending federal EV tax credits, weakening tailpipe pollution rules and slashing funding for charging stations — as President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans have proposed — would slow EV sales and trigger a wave of factory shutdowns and canceled investments, according to energy policy and auto industry researchers. It would also lead to higher planet-warming emissions, they added.

    The [biggest source of greenhouse pollution](https://www.epa.gov/ghgemissions/sources-greenhouse-gas-emissions) in the United States is transportation — mostly from [light-duty cars and trucks](https://www.epa.gov/ghgemissions/transportation-sector-emissions), according to the Environmental Protection Agency.   2. Like, for everyone except Elon? 

    He bought Trump an election, might even have rigged it for him. In fact, I’m reasonably sure he did. 

    I’m sure he has enough on Trump to sink the whole thing.

    It’ll be great when they really start fighting and hating on one another. The wheels are going to come off at the top, not the bottom.

  3. The EV industry will continue to boom in China and Europe and American manufacturing will be left out of the global market even more so than now.

    All they are doing is crippling the US manufacturers.

  10. Stop teasing the Chinese! They’re salivating over owning the EV market for decades to come as fossil fuels fade out.

  11. Chinese EV auto manufacturers are popping champagne at news like this. Ford and GM will become irrelevant in the world market. Why? Because although Chinese EVs are not sold in the US, they are selling and increasing market share displacing traditional US strongholds. Because the Chinese play the long game, this will turn GM and Ford into the equivalent of Citroen or Fiat, with strong sales in their home markets only.

  14. This is obviously bad news but I think the good news is that China and the EU will just keep moving forward.

  15. Wait, I thought it was illegal for us not to buy teslas! Now they don’t want us buying teslas?? lol
