They’ve been in power for like ten minutes. What exactly are people expecting here?
It’s way too soon to feel ‘better off’ under a government
i’d be more concerned that warning shots of more cuts and more stagnation are being fired.
is this not just fanciful expectations giving how badly the conservatives did. I mean they properly fucked it. what idiot is expecting it to turn around in 8 months?
16% into their term and they’re polling questions like these. Hilarious.
Did they feel better after voting in the previous government that many times?
After everyone’s life getting significantly worse under the Tories, I’ll take this.
But I don’t feel poorer like I did year on year with those snot nosed, conservative, weasel cunts in charge.
It’s early into it and obviously nothing major has happened etc so I understand the 8/10 feeling that but who are the 2/10 feeling better off lol
Right wingers spent 14 years dismantling the county, lining their mates pockets and committing the biggest economic blunder in living memory.
No shit barely anything has changed.
The situation is so dire that people not feeling much worse in 3.5 years time will already have to be considered a success
The first budget hasn’t even come into effect yet has it?
Too early to form a judgement.
Give it a couple more months when the £615 job poll tax kicks in.
All the people who last summer insisted Labour would crash a glowing economy now whinging Labour hasn’t fixed a broken economy.
🤷
Christ. It’s been, what, 10 months? Keir probably hasn’t even finished unpacking his house yet, let alone repair all the shit the tories did.
I haven’t felt better off either, nor have I felt worse off. And you know what I wouldn’t expect to after less than a year. Tories had over 10 years to fuck the country up, and we expect Labour to fix it in a matter of months? Nah.
I’m not a fan of this Labour government but give them a fucking chance lol.
Well they’re trying to fund a war against Russia. They have to get the money from somewhere and the public seem to support it.
While I agree they’ve not been in power long enough to enact significant change, how long can Reddit really keep saying “They’ve only been in power for X amount of time” before it starts to look a little silly. For a party that knew they were going to win the election well in advance, and achieved a majority larger than anything I’ve seen in my adult life you would have expected Labour to come in and enact significant changes on day 1.
Legislation pre-written, ready to debate and pass in parliament with a whipped super majority as soon as parliament resumed. I would have expected the radical changes on day 1 and to begin feeling the small initial waves of these changes around about now that would later transition into a tidal shift years down the line. Instead, the more “radical” changes are happening now, almost a year after they achieved their massive majority, and many of their solutions to problems has been to lean on the private sector, reduced government investment/ownership and watering down plans such as GB Energy to basically a consultancy firm that takes a backseat when it comes to national energy ownership. In other words, the same things the British government has been trying since Thatcher.
I don’t feel better off since labour came to power but also, importantly, I don’t feel worse off either. So far I don’t feel like Labour is doing a terrible job. After 13 years off the blue lot I’m willing to give Labour a bit of time ( like an election cycle of 5 years) to see if they can turn things around from the mess thirteen years of Tory rule has inflicted on the UK.
Still to early. Wait and see the effect of the budget changes with the increased employer NI. Will likely curtail any bonuses and stall on recruitment.
How many would’ve voted differently if any other government had been in power? Useless
The minimum wage increase next month will likely be of major benefit to millions. Agreed however this shouldn’t have taken the best part of a year to do.
My nursery hours doubled per week and kicked in at 9 months instead of 2 years. The income threshold also went up. Most child-bearing people are better off, unequivocally, if you became parents after the election
I also don’t feel like I’m actively being robbed blind by my government. So I’ll settle for this.
Too soon to know for the current government but if they meant the last Labour government then they are correct. It’s been downhill since 2008…
Labour is cutting benefits, making moves to get UK troops in Ukraine, and is reorienting its economy for defense and Brits on reddit still sit around bitching about the Tories lol. Maybe the issues you guys face aren’t going to be solved by anybody in a meaningful way?
Yeah no shit they haven’t done anything, just like the previous government. Only reason they won was because “we are not the Conservatives”.
I mean obviously? 14 years of having our economy run into the ground will do that. The choice was between further running the country into the ground or a chance at building us back up. It isn’t gonna be fast, it isn’t gonna be gratifying, it’s gonna be an absolute slog. Granted, Labour have not gone about this completely the right way, but there was never gonna be a fun outcome.
It’s like being mad at your Personal Trainer for yelling at you to do 5 more pushups. If you wanna put on the muscle, then you gotta do the work. Next time don’t vote to eat ice cream for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 14 years.
They’ve been in long enough to put a significant tax on employment and now changes to welfare that would have people screaming about Tories murdering disabled people if it had been done by them. Interested who feels better off and how long this Government has got to sort things out in any meaningful way.
I’m more interested in the 2 people who feel better off – what did I miss?
These people could have had the luxury of being even worse of either Tories or reform. Dumb fucks
One party needs 14 years to convince the electorate it isn’t helping. The other party can’t even have 14 months. the propaganda is working because only dead fish go with the flow.
I mean yeah I’m chronically ill and will likely never be well enough to work unless a miracle happens so I’m worse off under labour.
Well they’re basically pretty similar to conservatives in terms of actions under starmer, despite what they campaigned on.
I will judge this government after 5 years. It’s way too soon to judge whether any policies will make a difference considering they’re trying to reverse 14 years of incompetence.
Not that hard to believe when they keep showing how much they aren’t for the people anymore and keep going after the disabled.
But of course it is my lack of intelligence for noticing that I guess!
Judging from the comments here you could pretty much tell now who are labour supporters and who are not labour supporters.
“But they’ve only been in power for a certain amount of time” It’s now sounding like a broken record. It’s been 10 months, not 10 days. Every time labour does something that is controversial, every single supporter says the same bloody thing again and again and again. I tend to find people who refuse to take responsibility and ownership for their actions would rather just blame other people for their current problems. It happens all the time in politics.
Labour has now been in control of the country for nearly a year and they are making decisions which could cause a lot of people to die in the process. After what they are going to do with the benefits when it comes to people with disabilities, why would you ever want to support labour after that? Let alone the conservatives.
Needless to say, I’m fed up and I’ve had enough.
Because we’ve spent a fortune on brexit and achieved absolutely nothing but more beurocracy.
They haven’t undone decades of shite in ten minutes so clearly they should get chucked in the bin.
I don’t like everything they’re doing by a very long stretch, but I feel considerably less actively fucked over than I did a year ago.
Expecting 14 years worth of changes in 9 months.
God. We’re such a facile country.
It’s been a year, what the fuck were people expecting
It’s almost like things take time to change. Crazy, I know!
Cut foreign aid, make disability payments harder to qualify for, raise defense spending and protect the super-rich from paying any more tax, and they have the fucking nerve to call themselves the Labour party? Even Thatcher would call them right-wing!
Why would people feel better off? The government hasn’t made any positive changes, nor do they intend to.
