  1. > The German government has been criticised for its hesitant attitude towards arms deliveries. Now, according to SPIEGEL, Berlin wants to present the government in Kiev with a list of brand-new weapons that Germany could send.

    > The German government wants to offer Ukraine more weapons systems as soon as possible to strengthen the resistance against the Russian army. According to SPIEGEL information, a round of state secretaries from the ministries involved agreed on Tuesday to offer the government in Kiev a list of various weapons systems in the next few days. After that, Ukraine is to decide for itself which weapons it can best use.

    > Behind the scenes, the defence ministry had already asked the German arms industry shortly after the war began which weapons systems could be delivered quickly. From the feedback, the department of Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD) has meanwhile compiled an Excel list with more than 200 items. Almost all the well-known German arms manufacturers, but also many small suppliers who want to deliver weapons for Ukraine quickly and could do so, appear on the list.

    > What is new about the idea is that the planned deliveries are no longer systems from Bundeswehr stocks, but freshly produced weapons that could be sent directly to Ukraine. How the deals will be settled is not yet entirely clear. The EU had set up a budget of one billion euros, from which the member states can finance arms deliveries to Ukraine. So far, however, Germany has probably not helped itself to the EU pot.

    > The Bundeswehr itself has already handed over anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles, some of them from old NVA stocks. Now, however, the troops are hardly in a position to do without further material. Already 500 anti-tank guns plus 1000 rounds of ammunition, 500 “Stinger” anti-aircraft missiles and 2000 “Strela” missiles from GDR stocks have arrived in Ukraine. Last week it became known that the Bundeswehr intends to hand over 2000 more anti-tank weapons.

    > **The Excel list, however, now makes it clear that almost all reservations against arms deliveries to Ukraine have been dropped. In addition to a lot of protective material, the list also includes heavy military equipment such as mortars or heavy machine guns of the type GAM B01 from the manufacturer Rheinmetall. According to the manufacturer’s offer, the heavy weapons cost a good one million euros each. In return, however, the six machine guns are more or less immediately available and do not require much training.**

    > **There is also plenty of high-tech material listed. For example, Thales offers to supply ground radar systems of the “Squire” type. Thales also offers twelve mortars mounted on trailers, which, according to the manufacturer, could be delivered to Ukraine as early as this week. The delivery of thousands of night vision devices, protective waistcoats, helmets – but also modern drones to monitor the battlefield – would also be possible.**

    > **In total, the list includes possible arms deliveries worth 308 million euros. More than half of this amount is for reconnaissance equipment, such as night-vision devices or radar systems – but also for ultra-modern micro-drones equipped with jammers to cut off the mobile radio signal. A good 40 million are for hand-held weapons, almost 80 million for equipment such as protective waistcoats or helmets.**

    > Which weapons Ukraine wants is now up to the government in Kiev to decide. A few days ago, the German government, through Economics Minister Robert Habeck and Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, had already made it clear that the Federal Security Council would very quickly give the green light for further deliveries. In the meantime, the committee, which meets in secret, no longer has to convene; instead, individual deliveries can be approved in a circular procedure.

  2. Scholz to Zelensky: *Hands over piece of paper with long handwritten list of weapons*.

German military drummer: *Badum – tish!*

    Scholz and Zelensky: *Laughing hard*.

Who ever said Germans don’t have humor?
