Had watched the Hollywood version of it (Tom Hanks) before, which is very cheesy. I had no idea that the original novel and movie are Swedish. Lots of cultural references were lost in the remake. The Hollywood version is very popcorny.

  1. One of my favourite Swedish movies and movies in general. I really need to watch the Tom Hanks version just to see what things they changed and what Hollywood thinks doesn’t work for an American audience

For reference, I am not Swedish, and speak a very rusty Norsk as 3rd language, so I was struggling a little bit with the original Svensk audio without sub, but still the movie really impressed me. My absolute favorite Swedish movie thus far, and I have admittedly only watched like 10 Swedish movies. I wonder what other great Swedish movies I have missed. Please help me with your suggestions.

  9. I very much do not like to watch Swedish shows or movies. For the most part they feel corny. But below i will list some i personally feel are great Swedish movies, or at least where at the time they were created. On phone pardon my formatting.

    – ondskan
    Story follows a boy raised in a old traditional family, think 1950 sweden. Because of the discourse at home he creates discourse at school. Expelled multiple times and given a last chance at a school that prides itself at reforming problem children. At which he promises himself to be better, no violence etc. But the school isnt that nice. 
    – en man som heter Ove.

    Multiple movies.
    Comedic story about 3 stooges trying to rob rich people.
    – hundraåringen som klev ut ur fönstret och försvann 
    & the next in the series
    – hundraettåringen som smet från notan och försvann.
    Follows an old man on adventure as he reminiscent of the past. Comedic story about astonishing happenstances of a man in love with explosions. 
    – kopps
    Comedic story about a group of small town cops.
    – Sällskapsresan
    Comedic story…
