All passengers travelling from Cyprus to any UK airport are instructed to contact their airline for information, following the closure of London’s Heathrow airport overnight due to a fire.

The massive blaze at Heathrow is expected to cause cancellations to all destinations, including to and from Larnaca and Paphos, and disruption to all airline carriers to and from London, as flights from Heathrow are being diverted to the city’s other airports.

At the time of publication, British Airways had cancelled its 7:40am departure from Larnaca airport with no further information available.

Heathrow Airport said it would be closed all of Friday after a huge fire at a nearby electrical substation wiped out power, disrupting flight schedules around the world.

The fire at a substation has affected 145,000 passengers and more than 1,000 flights.

According to flight tracking website FlightRadar24, at least 120 inbound flights to Heathrow were having to divert to other airports, while 1,351 flights had been due to land and take off at Heathrow on Friday.

The fire is still raging with 70 firefighters from the London Fire Brigade tackling the blaze at Europe’s busiest and the world’s fifth-busiest airport.
