It’s still one of the lowest stats amongst all nations. There should be a law commanding everyone to go through a gun training and own at least one piece of firearms.
[Edit] So, in Switzerland, considered by you, the plebs of POland, as a highly civilised state, can have this sort of thing in place, but as soon as it comes to Poland, you all shit your pants. XD
Anyone know how the law applies if I’m an American living here (karta pobytu) and would like (hypothetically) to own a gun? Is it possible?
EDIT: Thanks for all the warm responses. /s For the record, I’ve been living here for 15 years… have never been a “gun person” or never wanted to be… I was just curious. Nice to know I can depend on a friendly reddit community for hypothetical, innocent questions. To those who responded like human beings, thank you… the rest of you can fuck right off.

There are two interesting data points.
6242 for personal protection, only 154 in 2022.
756 for security, only one in 2022.
Either the flow of the process is shit, or there was some significant change in approach.
Hopefully they will be the first used by our armies reserve due to the experience of shooting and owning a gun 🙂
Imagine needing a permit to own the right to protect yourself
And here in Germany they play to ban blank guns, crossbows and already banned dozens of knife types.
As a Canadian citizen residing in Poland on a temporary permit and a responsible gun owner, I’m thankful Poland trusts me as an immigrant more than Canada trusts me as a citizen. Practical shooting competitions are really fun here 🙂
God bless gunfire
Good news, because it’s a nice and fun hobby, great outdoor activity. Also because more gun owners around, the more their opnions may matter for politicians.
Bad news for me, because number of gun owners rises much faster than number of shooting ranges and they get crowded.

“A record 45,900 firearm permits were issued in Poland last year amid unease at the war being fought between neighboring Russia and Ukraine.
In 2023, another 40,900 permits were issued, Polish daily Rzeczpospolita reported, citing police statistics.
Across the country, 367,400 people in total have firearm permits. Together, they legally own nearly a million guns, up from 463,800 in 2017. ”
