Kate Middleton has opened up about why she and her husband, Prince William, moved their family to Windsor. While attending the Irish Guards’ parade at Wellington Barracks as part of the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, the Princess of Wales was reportedly asked where the royals currently reside.

As per People, Kate responded: “We are in Windsor at the moment,” before revealing that she wanted to move from London for “more green space.” The 43-year-old then added that their Berkshire residence, Adelaide Cottage, is in a perfect location, as it’s “close enough to London”, but “not too far away.”

Previously, Kate, William, and their three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, lived in Kensington Palace in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The family resided there from 2017 to 2022, before confirming in a statement in August 2022 their plans to move.

The Prince and Princess of Wales’ country residence is also a perfect place to bring their kids up away from the spotlight. The couple have long been vocal about wanting their children to have as normal a childhood as possible; in 2023 a royal expert weighed in on how important it is for the royal children to avoid “overexposure.” Especially George, who

is second in line to the throne, after his father.

The expert said at the time: “[Kate and William] are well aware of the need for him and his siblings to have privacy as they grow up.”
