Mariam Shengelia, the Georgian representative for Eurovision 2025, is filming her postcard for the contest in Switzerland.

Filming continues in Switzerland as Georgia becomes the next country to travel to shoot their postcard footage. In recent weeks, participants from the 37 participating countries have been travelling to this year’s host country to film short clips, which will be shown during the live broadcasts of the contest in May. While in Switzerland, Mariam met with Napa, this year’s Portuguese representatives, who are also filming their postcard.

Mariam is representing Georgia at Eurovision 2025 with “Freedom”. She will compete in the second half of the second semi-final on May 15.

Postcards

This year marks the first time since 2019 that the postcards that will feature in the contest will have been filmed in the host country. In the past 5 years, artists have been superimposed on locations in the host country, seen visiting locations they are from or shown alongside past entries from their country.

Postcards have been a part of Eurovision since 1970, originally serving as a way to promote the host country. Over time, they have evolved into short segments that introduce the artists while allowing time for the stage to be set for the next performance.

Georgia in the Eurovision Song Contest

Georgia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007. They were represented by Sopho Khalvashi and the song “Visionary Dream”. Sopho finished 12th in the final scoring 97 points. The song received 12 points from the televoters in Lithuania. Their best result was a 9th place in both 2010 and 2011. Georgia has only ever missed one contest since their debut. This was in 2009 when they had selected Stephane & 3G with “We Don’t Wanna Put In”. The EBU asked the Georgian participants to rewrite the lyrics of the song or change the song completely.
