Good ol’ Anstruther

  1. Weird story about Anstruther:

Looking back on my life (I’m nearly 70), there are only a few women I should have married, and even that’s a contradiction because if I should have I surely would have. One of them was called Hilary (yeah, I know, maybe not the best but you have to try – *c’est la vie*).

Hilary put me in mind of a line in one of Dylan’s songs (I was well into Dylan at the time): *Bankers’ nieces seek perfection, expecting all the gifts that wise men bring* (from the song, *Love Minus Zero, No Limit* – I’ve never been one for compromise).

So I asked her, “Do you have an uncle who works in a bank?” To which she replied, “Yes, I’ve got an uncle who works in a bank in Anstruther.”

Cross my heart, sweat to die, it’s the only time in my life, apart from then and until now, that I’ve ever even heard of Anstruther.

    Go figure because I can’t.
