Professor Doom strikes again! Chris Whitty says there’s a ‘HIGH CHANCE’ that a Covid variant worse than Omicron will emerge in next two years

1. This is his equivalent of appearing on “I’m a celebrity” at this point.

2. “Professor Doom” being the only person at the Downing Street covid briefings who actually knew what he was talking about….

3. Not the only one voicing concerns about this. Its not over just because we are tired of it…

4. It’s his job to plan and prepare for health crises to mitigate harm. He’d be a bit negligent in his role if he just said, “Nah, it’ll be right”.

5. Given how mild Omicron seems to have been, the only valid response would appear to be “Well, duh!’

   What does the Daily Heil expect? SARC-CoV-2 to wave a wee white flag and retreat into nothingness? It’s here now, and probably always will be.

   Our best hope is to stay ahead of it with vaccines and drive it down to the level of influenza. Influenza…that thing that still kills friggin’ loads of people every year.

   So expect and extra dose with your annual flu jag.

9. Irresponsible twats. The man is doing his job. Just about the only one in government that actually had a clue when it came to Covid.

   He’s already been vilified and attacked in public, simply for being honest – if he says there’s a very good chance of a new variant, we’d be fucking idiots not to listen and do all we can to mitigate against it before it becomes a problem.

   …but I suspect that will be lost amongst the multiple “it’s time to move on” and “we can’t lock down forever” type replies.

10. on the same logic, there is also a chance that there will be a lower risk version that mutates too.. it depends on how many infections we keep and painting going forward.

11. Given the levels of immunity we have now I am not losing sleep over it.
