JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – A new app for the Valley View School District allows students, parents, and teachers to report bullying.
The district describes the HELPme app as “a powerful support tool.”
Valley View School District Assistant Superintendent Sara Osment said the app provides an extra layer of support, offering a safe and anonymous way to seek help for bullying, emotional struggles, social pressures, and more.
Osment gave a scenario to explain how it works for the district.
“I’m a parent and I’m reporting my child is being bullied, I put in all the specific details and that this is happening in the elementary,” Osment said. “That would be handed to that building’s principal, assistant principal, and dean of students.”
Based on the details submitted, the school would investigate.
Osment said bullying often goes unreported due to fear of confrontation. She said the app would be a better outlet.
“Some students feel safer by just submitting it on an app, we have posters throughout the schools so they can just scan the QR code and submit that way,” Osment said.
The HELPme app also provides food, mental health, and housing resources. A text-messaging crisis hotline is also available for students anywhere, anytime on the app.
