‘When we hear about the Trump tariff announcement, we shake’, EU wine industry lobbyist says

President Donald Trump on Thursday threatened a 200% tariff on European wine, Champagne and spirits if the European Union goes forward with a planned tariff on American whiskey. FRANCE 24’s Yinka Oyetade speaks to Dr Ignacio Sรกnchez Recarte, Secretary General of EU wine industry lobbying group CEEV and interim co-President of FIVS, the international federation of wine and spirits producers. He says that if tariffs go through, EU winemakers may have to shoulder a โ‚ฌ5 billion immediate hit, as the US market counts for 27% of EU wine exports.

  1. I think china should impose 40% tarrif on Eropean wine in retaliation against its tarrifs imposed on Chinese EVs. China is too polite.

  2. We have great wines here in America, I been to many great wine makers in California who have some incredible wines.

  3. ..and this is all very nice.. but for sure, if the US Gov chooses this way, what else to do? Hit the US producers with 500% tariffs then. We didnt start this.

  4. If I see this woman as the leader of Eu I just realized all these bunch of Europeans are losers. Playing hard balls with trump will get eu to cry in the end like zelensky is crying now

  5. Imagine your country is like a big playground. The government prints money (like tickets) and people work hard to earn those tickets. They use the tickets to buy things like toys, food, and clothes. But hereโ€™s the thing: if the playground only uses the same tickets over and over, it doesnโ€™t grow. To make the playground bigger and better, you need to bring in new tickets from outside.

How? By trading! If your playground makes cool toys or grows yummy food, you can sell them to other playgrounds (other countries) and get their tickets (money) in return. This way, more tickets come in, and your playground (economy) grows stronger.

If the government just prints more tickets without bringing in new ones from outside, the tickets lose their value, and things become more expensive (inflation). So, trading with others is super important to grow and make a profit.

  6. EU and Canada should find ways to work together, and ignore the US and Trump's noise. In many Canadian provinces, American alcoholic products are gone, nowhere to be found.

  7. Whay lol you put tarrifs on whiskey and you do t want up to do it to your wine lol ๐Ÿ˜‚ pound sand Frenchy

  8. The EU already had tariffs on U.S. cars and dairy products but when the U.S. tariffs the EU back itโ€™s a problem

  9. Basically what he said is. We are screwed if we canโ€™t sell products to the Americans they are the largest consumers of everything in the whole world. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  10. I think Trump has gone insane. Zero wine sold is zero tax$. And farmers are hurt. Hes destroying people globally. A crazy president will end in war and poverty.

  11. It is interesting that they are panicking from Trump tariffs when inside Europe they are doing the same between each other with regulations that are killing French and other farmers! How hypocritical it is! And Europe decided to boycott Russian products that generate an increase energy price but it is ok ๐Ÿคฏ also if the population suffering! I am sorry but you are very contradictory! Do what I say but not what I am doing ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  12. Why does everyone act like Trump is the only one who ever enacted tariffs? American products have been shut out of entire markets since day one. This is a great way to get our manufacturing jobs back, buy American, rebuild our middle class, and end globalist greed all at the same time. Every country take care of their own and end dependencies.
