  1. Not a surprising statistic. It probably is higher if you were including over 64’s and codeine OTC products.

  2. I’ve recently been put on codeine due to severe pain in my leg and my doctor spent a good five minutes talking about the risks of addiction. My mum has been on the same thing for chronic pain for about five years and says her doctor has never mentioned it once. I assume she is addicted at this stage but she doesn’t seem to show any obvious signs or appear to have any quality of life issues as a result.

  3. One of the things that shocked me was the ease at which GPs prescribed opioid pain killers. I had several surgeries and had severe pain for a couple of years after due to a combination of post-surgery issues and nerve damage. Initially it was treated with paracetamol and ibuprofen but ended up being prescribed tramadol. I took it as directed and it did nothing for my pain so I stopped taking it. But my GP kept prescribing it, even after tellling them it didn’t work and I wasn’t using it. It was on my repeat prescription, and had multiple discussions with the pharmacist to not give me the tramadol even though it was on the prescription. They would also refuse to take it back once it was dispensed.

    This was between 2010-2012.

  4. Those are rookie numbers you gotta pump those numbers up

  5. I’m one of those one in a 100 and it really is an epidemic. Heroin is absolutely everywhere no amount of police officers or arrest are going to do anything about it anytime soon. It’s such a shame

  6. There should be more of a crackdown on the use of opioids and cocaine.

Alternatively, just make LSD more freely available, and you’ll find the coke/opioid issue takes care of itself.

  7. How exactly do they distinguish between ‘addicted’ and ‘still find useful in pain relief’? 🤔

  8. This is fuckin bullshit.

I’m in a land of junkies and it’s no where near 1/100.

    Was this the daily mail?

  9. To be fair; opioids are dead morish. Like Pringles.

  10. Can you mail some to Colorado? We can’t get them here anymore

  11. Rates are reducing for younger folks. Which is a welcome trend. But that ageing cohort of users is persistent.

  12. My dad was given tramadol over the phone and then delivered with only instruction taken between 2 and 8 a day 😳
