Kurze Frage! I am an American and will need to get TUV, will the car pass inspection with such a spoiler ?

  1. For the spoiler i would ask an expert from ÖAMTC (austrian automotive club) or call at the Technische Landesprüfstelle before inspection. Your Porsche seems street legal but spoilers are not allowed on every car in austria or germany…

  2. If this Car was licensed in austria before, with that spoiler (which is probably the case) then yes. It should not be a problem.
    But just ask the dealer.

  3. Technically, any substantial change to a car in Austria must be approved by the State governor (which in reality of course just means having it checked by a certified shop). You would need to have this check (called ‘Typisierung’) done before you could legally drive the car. There are, however, certified parts that count as replacement parts and do not require this process. You should definitely check with the company that did the modification, as having documents is always a good thing. Once you have the required paperwork, the ‘TÜV’ (in Austria it’s called a Pickerl owing to the sticker put on your windscreen) is only to check if the car is safe to drive. They are not concerned with how your car was modified as long as it’s legal. Sadly, the government’s page on this subject has no english version, but in case you need it: https://www.oesterreich.gv.at/themen/freizeit_und_strassenverkehr/kfz/13/Seite.061630.html

You are, however, in Austria. This is why, in reality, it’s usually enough for your car to look ‘standard’ (meaning for any modofications to look like they belong on the car), which yours do. The theory is: As long as nobody suspects the car not being standard, nobody will look for midifications in the papers. There’s a lot of widened, raised Jeeps, for example, and almost none of them have papers. But they look right, so it’s ok. If you want to avoid trouble, have a German-speaker deliver the car to a shop outside the big cities, and plan on paying a small tip (not the bad make-nuclear-weapons-disappera corruption kind of tip, just a small thank you for the… quick inspection)
