Big Bertha, the cow that drank whiskey, lived until she was 48, broke two Guinness world records and raised £60,000 for cancer research. Big Bertha was born in County Kerry, Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day 1945 and lived until 1993, which is exceptionally old for a cow.

  1. Common enough for cows to drink whiskey I think? Farmers are always giving them poitín?

  2. After she died they had her stuffed, and her taxidermied corpse would be in the Paddy’s day parade every year.

  3. That’s a great photo, looks like some session.

  4. Her namesake gin is my all-time favourite. Haven’t seen it around in a while, I’m hoping it’s still going. The only gin I think can be sipped neat.

One of her records was for the most calves born to a single heifer.

  5. How much whiskey are we talking about here? Did she get pissed every day and start fights?
