While traveling around the world for over 20 years, I’ve been working on my dream project: creating a one-stop resource for travellers. I have visited Denmark a couple of times (and love it). I now created this overview [ [https://www.takeyourbackpack.com/backpacking-in-denmark/](https://www.takeyourbackpack.com/backpacking-in-denmark/) ] for anyone who is interested in visiting Denmark (with some detailed info for every highlight), hopefully you will love it as much as I did.
PS: obviously, I haven’t been able to travel to all parts of the country. So if you know some great spot, I haven’t listed, let me know! Much appreciated as in this way I can make the overview more complete and up-to-date for everyone.
F*ck Odsherred :p
Billund is a must. Randers Regnskov as well.
Just for information, Northside festival is not held in Aalborg, thats an Aarhus local
How can you not have Jelling on the list?
Or Lejre? Or Trelleborg?
Or Mønsted?
Or Bakken?
You’re missing A LOT of lovely places!!
Other than that, its a really good idea👍
You should probably include LEGOland for the kids. 😀
That’s in Billund. Billund isn’t even on your map. It’s a little to the west of Vejle and, no offence to people from Vejle, A LOT more interesting for tourists, which is also why it has one of the largest airports in the country.
Then there’s Nykøbing Sj.; excellent summerhouse location with beautiful beaches. It’s directly and quite far north of Slagelse.
You need atleast:
Randers Regnskov
Djurs Sommerland – biggest “summer park” of the nordics
* If you stay in Randers, you can visit both Randers Regnskov, and take the bus to Djurs Sommerland
Smukfest – big festival
And theres many more
You are missing Ribe, the oldest city in Denmark.
You are also missing Silkeborg
Føler mig lidt fornærmet over at hjørring ikke er på listen :/
As someone else mentioned, definitely include Jelling: it has a historically massively important rune stone (two in fact!). They’re beautiful and are UNESCO world heritage. Their runes tell of the transition from Asatrú/heathen religion, to Christianity. There’s also a very, very old church right next to them, definitely worth a visit, as well as a museum.
And do ignore all the negativity. You don’t live here, so you can’t know of every single worthwhile spot.
Giving suggestions is great (I suggested Jelling in my other comment), but a lot of people are coming off very rude, almost offended in these comments “how could you forget XYZ??!!!!?”
As if you’re personally responsible for knowing every single small detail of a country that you don’t live in… I think your idea is great, and I’m flattered you wanted to make such a map of our small country!
svaneke 😂
You should add Rørvig Strand 🙂
You should color code the legend so overlapping symbols can be deciphered
Will always recommend people going on the trip to southern funen. Amazing part of the country
How does this differ from searching “attractions” on Google maps?
Leaving so many places in Jutland without the “hike” icon is a crime against nature.
Har du ikke været på den jyske hede? 🙂
Can I get a link?
A friend of mine made an app for this, covers all of Denmark and has hundreds of locations with information and history in different languages.

As someone who’s only just starting to visit Denmark regularly this is awesome, thank you. I’m coming at least once a year now to visit in-laws but they never want to leave the Copenhagen area (or just unable to at this point). Will def be using, and thanks to the Danes for adding in the other points on where to go.
Almost the entire coastline is beach
Visitdenmark.com has like 50.000 points of interest
There are a million apps and services like this?
I can’t make out what you’ve highlighted on Bornholm, (Looks like the city/village of Svanekem and the island overall?) but I would suggest a few extras:
* The castleruin of Hammershus – Northern Europe’s largest castleruin, placed near the north tip of the island.
* The city/village of Gudhjem – Parts of the city is build into the cliffside, have Denmark largest windmill, and there is a ferry that goes to the islandgroup “Ertholmene” during the tourist season.
* Duodde beach – A lovely beach with some of the finest sand in the country. (Balka Beach is also worth checking out)
* Østerlars Church – One of several round-churches on the island, with this one being the largest, and possibly one of the oldest. Close to it is also “Bornholms middelaldercenter”, where one can see how life looked like during the middleages.
Missing out Lille Norge at Jammerbugten and Lille Vildmose seems like a big mistake.
Corrections:
1. Samsø is the island to the north of the location stated. Incidentally, the location is near Fyns Hoved, which is a lovely place for hiking.
2. Langeland is the tall and narrow island to the east of the stated location. Although I’d recommend visiting the southern Fyn-ish islands in general.
3. Fur is also misplaced. The island is located to the north-east-east of the location stated.
Also, I think it would be remissive not to include Hærvejen as a hiking trail, since you’ve included Gendarmstien.
Furthermore, I’d recommend adding the Tinderbox festival in Odense and Smukfest in Silkeborg, as both larger and smaller music festivals are included.
Lastly, I’d recommend adding Hammershus (Unique site)
