How long has it been since a humans rights group was actually taken seriously.
* Labour’s plans for housing potentially delayed because paying the agricultural value for farmland instead of the hope value taking into account planning permission could be expropriation under the ECHR
* Labour’s plans to abolish leasehold delayed because abolishing freehold ownership is potentially expropriation under the ECHR
* Labour’s welfare cuts being investigated by the EHRC
* Labour’s attempt to be serious on deportations being continually undermined by ridiculous rulings under the ECHR
Great system of governance.
By that we should confiscate all private assets and distribute equally among everyone.
So the courts can rule the government can or cannot cut benefits. They can rule whether the government can allow north sea oil drilling and the courts can decide if an asylum scheme for Ukrainians can be opened to Palestinians?
What is the point in us voting if the government we elect is impotent to change anything? Or is that the point?
Thank God there are some checks and balances, as I fear this policy is not only immoral, but rushed will end up costing the taxpayer much more in the long run.
God, you can’t even kill the disabled without some loony European human rights lawyers getting involved. Don’t they understand austerity has been tried before and it definitely worked!
