WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Friday that Boeing will be in charge of a contract to build the “Next Generation Air Dominance fighter” known as the F-47 to “maintain American air dominance into the future.”
Hegseth previewed the Department of Defense announcement on X Thursday by stating “POTUS leading the way on the future of American power.”
Trump called the F-47 “the most advanced, most capable, most lethal aircraft ever built.”
“An experimental version of the plane has secretly been flying for almost 5 years and we’re confident that it massively overpowers the capabilities of any other nation,” he said.
Hegseth said while standing next to Trump that the program “sends a very direct, clear message to our allies that we’re not going anywhere, and to our enemies, that we will be able to project power around the globe unimpeded for generations to come.”
The news came after billionaire Elon Musk visited the Pentagon to discuss “innovation, efficiencies and smarter production” with Hegseth.
Hegseth shared news about the meeting with Musk on social media Thursday while also denying it would be about “top secret China war plans” as published by The New York Times.
As Musk left the Pentagon, he declined to answer questions from reporters about whether they had discussed China or if it was a classified briefing.
President Donald Trump also dismissed The New York Times report on Truth Social, saying “China will not even be mentioned or discussed.”
Musk called The New York Times “pure propaganda” and that he looks “forward to the prosecutions of those at the Pentagon who are leaking maliciously false information to NYT.”
“They will be found,” he said.
On Thursday, the Pentagon said it was making cuts under the direction of Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency to shrink the federal government and cut wasteful spending.
Hegseth signed a memo directing the termination of more than $580 million in programs, contracts and grants that “are not a good use of taxpayer dollars.”
“We owe [taxpayers] transparency and making sure we’re using [the money] well,” he said in a video.
He added the money saved “would ensure warfighters have what they need thanks to the cutting of fraud, waste and abuse.”
