Cancelling something doesn’t respect shit lmao. If your school is so diverse you should instead be celebrating everything to make all children feel included and part of a community.
Feels like it was done for financial reasons and this is just a shit excuse.
I can think of one religion they wont cancel stuff for…
These days, if you celebrate Easter, they’ll arrest you and throw you in jail.
> Stephanie Mander, the school’s headteacher who sent the letter, has defended the move by saying it was out of “respect for diversity”.
It hardly seems believable that someone would do this, if only for the major headache it will cause them from all the complaints and media attention.
It is stupid if it is real though, it is more than possible to celebrate other religious holidays whilst retaining the existing ones.
If this happened when I was a kid my mum would be fuming, she got proper competitive about the prize for best Easter Bonnet.
Set a reminder for me to update this thread when this has proven to be bollocks…
Take all religion out of school. Learn about the real world.
That makes no sense. If they wanted to respect each culture and religion you’d just celebrate them all lol not cancel them all
Diversity to the point of erasing local traditions. Got it.
Are we turning the annual “they’ve banned Christmas, you can’t even say ‘merry Christmas’ anymore” into a biannual media nonsense? When did this come in?
The headmaster needs to be cancelled from their job. People should show up on mass to proton at this, just like the Muslims do when they’re unhappy.
All the people that claim to be Christian but haven’t been to church in 20 years will be really angry about this I’m sure
Just call it giant chocolate egg weekend instead, no one actually cares about the religion bit anyway.
Exactly this type of thing is eroding British culture. When they say we want our country back it is this type of BS they’re referring to.
It’s funny to watch a story that started on the town’s Facebook rant page slowly grow nationally over the week.
You can’t even say “Merry Easter” anymore without the woke police knocking down your door!
The less religion in school the better, it should be in class for learning purposes only.
Why not celebrate all the diverse religious holidays then? Use it as a learning experience for the kids that shows them they live in a multi cultural society.
Cancelling stuff like this achieves nothing. Also, it implies non Christian people will be offended by Easter, spoiler they aren’t.
Does anyone celebrate easter? Just curious, as in my experience it’s only ever been about chocolate eggs anyway.
My guess is, they saw a way to save money and needed an excuse.
Just plain wrong, ‘respecting diverse religious beliefs’ surely if that is their aim celebrating other faiths in school would be a more fitting way of doing it and this is coming from an Atheist who thinks all faiths are destructive, divisive, bollocks.
Back when I was in primary school 15 years ago we just did some extra celebrations. Henna for Diwali and some other things like Chinese new year. Kids live an excuse for a festival and you can teach them new things on top. No reason to cancel other than to provoke reaction.
I suspect that no one could be arsed to organise it this year.
Christ is it ‘cancelling Easter’ season already? Comes round earlier every year.
Whose got the fake outrage at it being labelled a Chocolate egg and not an Easter egg as the Lord Jesus intended?
A disgrace. Every child should learn about the Easter bunny, Easter bonnets and Easter eggs as they were described by the apostles in the Bible.
Only religions celebrated with huge banners and activities were Diwali and Ramadan, weekly Iftar dinner, sponsored by the Student Union. Absolutely nothing up for Christmas/ Easter at the university I teach at.
We were told to adjust our teaching schedules this month to help students who are fasting, and our school cafeteria now only serves mostly Halal South Asian food, instead of the standard British foods. For those not liking it, we are told just to get a cold, pre-wrapped sandwich and deal with it.
