Why has the cost of a block of butter risen so much since last year?

  1. Isn’t that ironic?

We have a massive production of milk. Of course if most if it’s exported, we have artificially less milk for domestic use. Hence higher price.

All they would have to do… To decrease export slightly and prices would drop?

  2. each 454g block of butter requires around 8 Litres of milk to make.

  3. It’s a commodity sold on the international market. International factors affect prices you see at a national level. We export €6.3 billion which is 40% of total Agri output. Farmers are having a good time.

  4. Thankfully these factors aren’t in effect in other countries where you can get Irish made butter for cheaper than here.
