ALPENA COUNTY, Mich,. (WPBN/WGTU) – – If you’re struggling with your mental health, a new map might be able to get you the help you need.
Mary Schultz and Kara Lemonds just launched their brand-new mental health map through work with partners in prevention.
“It’s not intended for crisis situations. You know, if you’re in crisis, you need to call 911 or 988, but if we’re trying to explore what’s available and what might suit my needs, this map is a great place to start,”
Thanks to a grant from SAMHSA, the group has been able to connect the community with mental health resources, counseling and outline protocol for getting help.
This is for people living in several Northeast Michigan counties.
“We really wanted to cover every degree of anything that’s given to you.
Maybe you’re like, why am I isolating you can try some of the community events that are happening that the DBA is putting on. If I’m not able to get out of bed and something’s been really troubling me, then I’m going to reach out to my GP,” said Mary Schalk, who Worked to create mental health map.
From becoming more active in the community to connecting with your doctor, the mental health map meets you where you’re at, and it’s something mental health counselors say also gets you to the place you need to be
If you just need a safe place, someone that can listen, help support you to be able to overcome struggles, means help, and that’s really the goal,” said Vicki Konckak, Licensed Counselor, Catholic Human Services.
