And besides, if the Nazis went after the biggest concentrations of undocumented workers, they would have to raid red state meat packing plants, red state agriculture, and red state resorts. And that’s just not going to happen for obvious reasons…

  6. I’ve never thought I’d be this thankful my wife was born 2 months after her family immigrated. Her family are all legal green card holders but we’ve both been making plans on how we could make it work if we needed to let them stay with us if this bullshit begins escalating into regular attacks on green card holders.

    This is why she really should have applied for citizenship in the time she was here.  Petty shit like this might become the norm for greencard holders 

  8. This is the exact situation my grandma’s in: came to the States on a green card in her 20s, been living there ever since. She doesn’t travel internationally much these days, and I’m not sure I’ll be visiting her in the States anytime… I really hope she isn’t swept up in the this, but her situation’s pretty much identical.

  9. It’s important to note that she was detained because of a prior crime of embezzlement. However, she already was convicted and paid fines, so it’s confusing why she was detained now.

  10. I’ve never understood people who live on Green Cards for decades rather than getting citizenship. You’re living at the fiat of an unscrupulous President. Since 2003, the Philippines has allowed dual citizenship, so that’s not a reason.

    >On March 2, Dixon was “transferred to the Northwest ICE Detention Facility.” The Northwest ICE Processing Center (NWIPC), which is privately owned by the GEO Group, holds over 1,500 detainees, and has been open since 2004.

    Expect to see more of this because these prison corporations will be demanding more inmates from the government.

  12. Had a discussion with my 74 year old green card holding mother this weekend about how she shouldn’t risk leaving the country.

    She’s Canadian and has been here for 60 years.

    It’s surreal having to talk about how maybe she should avoid air travel.

    It enrages me

  17. I worked in immigration law and this is not a Trump thing.

    This is textbook US law and she’s stupid.

    She could have taken citizenship anytime in the last 40 years.

    We deport convicts.

    You don’t travel with any convictions. Just don’t leave. People with a criminal record are inadmissible. That’s the whole point.

    She did a self-removal after not being forced to leave. She’s lucky with the embezzlement that she wasn’t forced out.

    Very stupid and would have happened the same under Obama or Biden or even Clinton.

  18. Trump is demonizing immigrants, period. Doesn’t matter if you’re documented, or done anything illegal, you’re his strawman target to set conservatives upon. After he’s done with visas and green cards he’ll start going after birthright citizenship next. He’ll expatriate Americans born to immigrant parents and exile them from the country. And after that (since slopes are slippery indeed) he can just use ICE as his own personal gestapo and expatriate anyone who doesn’t support him.

    I remember some A hole in college throwing air planes during my Dream Act presentation

    He went off about “my parents are legal immigrants, they need to just follow the law”

    Like…obviously YES, but when people are ANGRY and HURTFUL towards a group, they get UGLY

    And to them, there isn’t a difference between legal or not

    That’s why we should focus our energy on fixing the system in general, hatefulness always just hurts people

  24. As usual, a Republican administration arrives and tries all the ‘it’s just common sense’ stuff and then discovers that you need to have a good plan and be sufficiently prepared to follow the plan.

    Nope. The Trump administration thought all they had to do was drive around, spot ‘illegals’, arrest and deport them. Simple, common sense, right?

    So: no real plan, no really organized staff, just random running around AND, surprise, surprise what they thought would be fast and easy just isn’t happening. Kind of like the ‘The Mexicans will pay for the wall’ and Trump couldn’t get it built and it was a huge failure (that they don’t want to even mention any more – have you noticed?

    Deja vu all over again. Like the ‘infrastructure plan’ what was ‘in 2 weeks’ and the replacement for Obamacare. NOTHING, no plan, no progress, no nothing, just hot air.

  30. My grandma has been in the US since the 60s on a green card. Shitty thing is my mom voted for Trump, even though we told her what would happen. “Oh you’re just being ridiculous”

This reminds me of Stallin’s selective targeting of civilians.If Trump has the power he brags about,couldn’t he release the innocent folks who were detained?But that would be against his endgoal,and his supporters and allies won’t let him live it down.If his miracle workers go,most likely jail sentence for him.
