Hallo.

I’m doing research on moving to Norway and I’ll probably fall under [this category](https://www.udi.no/en/want-to-apply/residence-under-the-eueeu-regulations/eueeu-national-who-has-their-own-funds/?c=rou).

Does that bank have to be a Norwegian one? If so, is it ok to pay for utilities and other things with Revolut or another card issued by a bank from another country while the Norwegian one is still being created?

tl;dr: How do foreigners pay for rent and utilities while waiting for their Norwegian bank account to be created?

  1. I assume any bank would be acceptable. They can’t expect you to have salary in a Norwegian bank account before planning to move here.

  2. Ask for whomever issues your bills to give you the IBAN and SWIFT and do International Bank transfers from your bank. Costs a little extra, but should keep you going until you have everything set up in Norway.

  3. You do not need to have the money in a Norwegian bank account to show that you qualify for entry into the country.

As an EU citizen it shouldn’t take very long to get a Norwegian bank account. Most utilities will have payment terms that are long enough that you should be able to get a bank account in time.

If you get a bill that you cannot pay in time you should be able to contact them and ask for IBAN and SWIFT, so that you can do an international payment.
