Cheap air travel must end, says Green MEP

  1. Why not ban private Air travel? Private jets and helicopters cause a lot of pollution for the sake of one person.

Trying to price the low wage worker out of a holiday. Not enough that they won’t be able to afford heating during the winter.

Only voted for these fools in the hopes they’d speak up about cannabis. Useless shower of shits, never again. At least there won’t be a green party in this country after the next election.

  2. It always seems like the Greens try and come up with the most unpopular proposals imaginable.

Instead of proposing something to the effect of “we should encourage people to use less air travel”, or maybe “we should invest in technologies that allow air travel to pollute less” it’s always fuck you stop doing that.

Sure, let’s all go back to living in caves and lighting fires to roast a few handpicked mushrooms.

  3. I am very conscious of helping the environment but these cunts are insufferable and i would never vote for them.

  4. The Greens just seem like they have a list of everything bad for the environment but they bring zero desire to the table on how to replace those things with actual environmentally friendly alternatives. If it isnt a Greenway they are fucking blocking it.

  5. The rich – who probably cause majority of pollution anyway, are untouched again?
Make private jets near-impossible to own. Should be reserved for emergency health services and individuals who require protection.

  6. Yes, so only the wealthy can travel guilt free.
Perhaps the greens need to fertilise their shite elsewhere.
Maybe volunteer to fuck off at the next election.

  7. > “I work from Brussels a lot and I hope to go to a conference in Vienna in May and I will simply hop on a night train, get onto the train, get into a [cabin], fall asleep and wake up refreshed in Vienna,” he said. “Alternatively, I could take a two hour flight and for a journey like that it [the train] is a sensible alternative with a much lower carbon footprint.”

Easy to say when you aren’t paying for it.

The night train from Brussels to Vienna, on a random day in May, costs €109 to sit in a seat for fourteen hours. It’s €169 to share a triple-bunk-bed with two complete strangers, and €239 to have your own compartment. A Ryanair flight the night before, plus a room in a five star hotel with a spa, is €95.

I have a crippling fear of flight, yet I know which one I’d be taking.

  8. Ah shur jesus I’ve a currach and a penny farling to get me on my holidays these days, pure eco I’m am..

  9. How about banning private jets and yachts or no because that effects the super rich. Greens love attacking the working man/woman, bunch of deluded plebs they are. They are the most dangerous party in Ireland.

  10. Unfortunately the reality is unless we change our way of life the next few decades are going to be grim as fuck. Then things will get even worse. Unfortunately there is no evidence that the structural changes needed will ever take place. Don’t buy property near the coast I suppose.

  11. I like in general environmental issues the globe needs to be cared for that is a no brainer.I feel that the Green party has many well meaning members but I feel the party has hijacked green ideology from the likes of Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth and other enlightened non for profit environmental groups.
As it stands the Green party in Ireland is more of a paid gun for hire on contract to a few investment companies or other profiteers while at the same time getting some tarmac layed along the coastline of the capital for a small amount of bike riders and walkers annually.

  12. Completely agree. The era of cheap air travel has to end. Unless there is a massive technological breakthrough, people will just have to fly less.

  13. He’s talking about reducing business travel – the Dublin lad traveling Dublin-London to chat to the London lad about a deal. He’s not talking about holidays. Its in the article. 80% of business travel is bullshit. Nobodys taking away anyones holidays. There are no holiday €10 flights.

  14. People don’t like to hear but he is right. Fist step would be complete stop to all the government subsidies pumped into this industry. Then we might see the real cost of flying reflected on the tickets.
