Not been in a Spar in years but I always thought they were never the cheap option if you had a choice.
Spar’s always been ridiculously overpriced to be honest. Wouldn’t go there unless I had no other choice.
That’s criminal.
They’re called convenience shops, not cheap shops.
Go to Sainsbury’s
Was just back for the first time in 5 years – 8.50 for a sandwich and a coffee, tenner for a fish supper
How’d that happen
Spar has always been overpriced. You’re paying for the convenience.
Go and get a meal deal from a bigger shop or a supermarket instead. Or buy from a wee independent roll shop and pay back into the community.
Spar = poverty tax.
Go to a larger store and get a meal deal for less money.
Fkin Aida!
ain’t nobody paying that
Reading this from Switzerland I thought this was going to be a post about how affordable they are.
Can’t you get a meal deal somewhere? About £5 for multiple things
Is deep fill when they actually use enough filling to cover the bread instead of half a sausage in the centre?
We have a Spar right in the centre of the town I live in. It’s stupidly expensive compared to the Morrisons less than 300 yards up the road. For example – £6 for Mr Kipling cakes that are £3 at Morrisons. Plus much of the stock is very short dated – milk in the Spar generally only has a couple of days on it vs a week or two at the Morrisons. Plus it’s horrifically grubby – feels like it was last updated 20 years ago.
There’s been some waste ground in the town for a while, not quite in the centre but almost behind the existing Spar (it used to be a carpet warehouse & a car service centre). The Coop bought the land a couple of years ago and eventually got planning permission to build a new small supermarket on the site.
90% of the planning permission ‘noise’ when you check it out on the local council planning site was created by the holding company that actually owns the franchise to the Spar in the town (they’re all franchised operations – this company franchises quite a few). Literally trying to throw every piece of mud they could to get the Coop’s planning refused, but none of it stuck. The council saw through it straight away and passed the planning! The locals were all quite happy.
Over here in the states, it’s nearly a fiver for a big bag of walkers. Big sub sandwich in Walmart is anywhere between $6-9 dollars. No idea how every cunts so fat here, it costs a fat arm and leg to buy food
Was in Morrisons for lunch today for the ” £4 meal deal” picked my gear, went to checkout and it checked out at £7.35. Mentioned to checkout operator it’s in the meal deal for £4 but apparently you need the more card now 🤷 put it back went to McDonald’s got a meal for 6.99. Winning!
That wouldn’t last me all day!
Yuck, I wouldn’t eat that if they gave me the £4.55
Haven’t seen a spar in years..I thought they had gone under
This was in Aberdeen yesterday, FYI
If you can eat it before you exit the shop it’s free
What about the price of a Freddo though?
The worst type of prepackaged sandwich at that.
You would get it cheaper with a meal deal but even then, its expensive considering how awful the sandwiches in the Spar are!
Always been wary of Spar, if I remember correctly they took over quite a few NAAFI convenience stores back in the day. They were ridiculously expensive even compared to NAAFI prices, but we all knew that NAAFI’s profits paid towards a lot of welfare until someone paid an MP to put a stop to that sort of thing and funnel the profits into their “friends” pockets. Not surprised at the price.
Ultra-processed junk food.
I wouldn’t give them 1p for it.
I used to get a meal deal almost daily 7-8 years ago. Absolutely not possible now if you want to have anything leftover money wise/
And soon the Freddos will be £3
Scary the price of stuff. Fish supper is £11.95 in Aviemore now, decent size though.
they look disgusting, by the way!
Have you been to M&S recently? But at least their sandwiches *are* bloody good.
Actually – their fresh chicken is amazingly good. And the portions are surprisingly cheap. Chicken legs and wings – both around £1.50 a pack.
The very best quality, never goes off before the use-by date and dinner for two with a side dish. We kind of live on these, plus the occasional whole roast.
We have a spar on my campus. Its shite.
It’s the bloody prawn mayo one that drives me nuts. They shove all the goods to the front to make it look sexy or whatever. Just means you have to spend a minute fingering your sandwich to spread the contents before you eat it. Fuck off with that bollocks. It doesn’t need to be sexy. People buying a meal deal prawn mayo situation know exactly what they’re buying, it doesn’t need to be sexy
£4.55 for a single sandwich! That’s what unionists have done to Scotland. We need independence asap
I’m suprised Spar still exists. I haven’t even seen one in about 20 years.
I don’t go near Spar now. Total rip off. Sainsbury is the same.
Micky Flanagan is going to your spar
its cheaper to buy bread butter and a filling
Nah, how much is an entire loaf of bread? Not even in this current economy that has before us.
Stick to price marked items in a Spar and you’ll be fine.
If nobody buys them the price will have to drop. If the price drops & still nobody buys them, then they will stop stocking them. A shop with no stock to sell closes down pretty quickly.
