  3. Social Security is actually very well run especially at eliminating fraud. Just ask yourself, do you know anyone in your family who continued to receive social security checks after they died. The answer is no, the Social Security Administration people are on top of when you die (it’s part of the process any funeral director goes through, sending a form directly to the SSA altering them the person died). 

  4. DOGE couldn’t find fraud if it walked up to them and slapped them in the face. They fundamentally don’t know what they’re doing… And xAI isn’t good enough to do it for them 😂

  10. Well yeah. Social Security has been under scrutiny and audit for fraud since the 80’s. DOGE should turn it’s attention toward the military. Maybe look into how that new NGAD contract was awarded, propose some government oversight of that contract and start setting up audits and fraud controls right away.

  14. Because Musk’s usual “fraud finding” method is to find some random payments he doesn’t like and withhold them, and then fire a bunch of staffers at random as well. He can’t do that with Social Security because some old person might actually not get their check next month.

    Now, I don’t think the party affiliation of SS recipients is known, but judging by the fact that 80%+ of Republicans support the program, there have got to be a TON of Republican voters on monthly federal welfare. Threatening their checks is a quick ticket out of Washington.

  17. I’m fairly certain social security knew my dad died before I did. It’s amazing how efficient they were at cutting off that money actually. If everything ran that well we’d be in a different world.

  18. Usually social security is way more underutilized than it’s exploited. I.e. because people don’t know or because they’re too proud or perhaps mentally ill they do not seek social security that they would be eligible to have.

    E.g. in Finland the ratio of fraud to unclaimed social security might be something around 1:40. I’ve made these figures from two different years’ estimates of frauds (7.2 million) and unclaimed benefits (300 million).

    It makes no sense to have too strict control because at some point fraud prevention costs more than prevented losses.

  19. That’s fine , I don’t care if fraud or waste is found in every sector, I just am pro-DOGE because I actually want some auditing done in every sector that actually has some teeth.

    The government accountability office can audit sectors but has zero teeth and not enough man power to be effective.
