  1. When these statements are coming from Republicans, then we know something might have changed. But the comment from an R in that article was: “I’ve accidentally sent the wrong person a text. We all have.”

This is not a “Whoopsie”. They bypassed numerous protocols.

  2. Super excited for when no consequences are felt by anyone involved.

  3. This is guaranteed to lead to hearings in the Senate and maybe House. Too bad a lot of it will be behind closed doors given the secrets involved. This should be a huge fucking scandal, and it still might, but it would require republicans in congress for it to be anything but another story of the Trump administration’s colossal incompetence.

  4. They probably shouldn’t be using signal to have these conversations but what do I know? Its not like I’m an alcoholic talk show host in charge of the world’s largest department of defense

  5. Obviously, information security isn’t a priority for some in the government. How can such sensitive plans be leaked with this level of carelessness? this mistake puts national security at risk and highlights the need for stricter controls

  6. If Republicans cared about security they would not have elected Trump who stole and then tried to hide top secret information. It should surprise no one that this administration will not take security seriously.

  7. As they should.

I mean, not only are they using an unauthorized form of communications, but the dumb fucks didn’t check who they were sending messages to?!?

    For shame, guys. For shame.

  8. Our DUI hire for Defense Department had his head rolling when he blasted out the war plans.

  9. Remember when Hillary used a private email sever that *didn’t* give unauthorized people access to classified military intelligence and republicans wanted her burned at the stake?

  10. >*The thread is a demonstration of the deep and thoughtful policy coordination between senior officials. The ongoing success of the Houthi operation demonstrates that there were no threats to our servicemembers or our national security*

That’s the worst bit of damage limiting spin I’ve ever seen. The only reason there was no threat is because the Atlantic editor was conscious of what he was reading. Nobody knew that he was there. Might as well have a public round table on C-SPAN for your next national security briefing, so the whole world can marvel at the “thoughtfulness” of your discussions as long as all the viewers promise that they’ll keep it *really secret*. Maybe post a list of all your foreign operatives online as well, in case we want to send them a Christmas card or birthday text.

  11. Like, let me be clear, this is worse than Hillary Clinton’s email server, because Clinton didn’t have anything that was classified at such a high level on her server EXCEPTING in cases where it was classified at higher clearance AFTER the fact. Stuff you’d get out of FOIA.

The use of Signal here shows that they are almost certainly using it for just about EVERYTHING, with the EXPRESS PURPOSE of avoiding ANY FOIA requests.

They aren’t “keeping” records, they’re planning, executing, and refusing to record anything in direct violation of federal law, SPECIFICALLY for the EXPRESS PURPOSE of avoiding those records coming back on them because they’re committing crimes.

They HANG people for this, and I’m not joking: this is willing and knowing negligence, purposeful avoidance of federal records laws. They’ve breached basically every PART of the espionage act.

  12. If Republicans wanted to jail Hillary Clinton for using the wrong email server, what should the punishment for this be?

  13. Unless Signal incorporates NSA type 1 encryption, the Chinese and Russians have been party to many of their chats.

  14. Congress erupted, oh my. Then fucking do something about it you cowards.

  15. Active military personnel – are these the fucking people you’d be willing to go to war for against your peaceful allies? They’re going to get you fucking killed. They think of you as their toys.

  16. Congress: Heads should roll

    Narrator: They didn’t.

  17. People need to realize this goes way beyond sending to the wrong person. This information should have never been in a device where that could even happen. Someone already broke the law big time just getting that on their phone. It is an information security nightmare.

If anyone else did that, your clearance is revoked and you’re going to the slammer.

  18. The vice president, the Secretary of State, the presidents chief of staff and the Secretary of Defense were all personally involved in this chat.

The only person who will see any meaningful consequences will be Michael Waltz for getting them caught

  19. DUI hire Hegseth should be impeached. These assholes are using “signal.” They violated the law and any other time in history there would be criminal prosecutions.

I can only hope that in 4 years the new DOJ prosecutes all of these people.

  20. I still remember when biden’s secretary of defense was out sick for 2 days, and didn’t tell anyone, and it was a minor scandal.

  21. Ha conservative is blocking this story so theyre talking about it in random threads

  22. There’s always a Tweet

    Jul 6 2016 – 7:12am

Crooked Hillary Clinton and her team “were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information.” Not fit!

  23. One GOP congressman seriously suggested that the vice president and defense secretary should undergo remedial training on the use of secure communications systems when discussing war plans.

And the worst thing is, no Democrats are willing to go full Lindsey Graham over this and make the kinds of accusations that will get unending media and make people actually wonder if criminal incompetence at the highest levels of government is important.
