  1. The Beeb somewhat buries the lede in the article.

“The cell was directed from abroad by Jan Marsalek, originally from Austria, who was a business executive in Germany who became a Russian intelligence asset.”

    [Yes, **that** Jan Marsalek.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Marsalek).

  2. Ms Gencheva, an airport worker, hung up when contacted by phone, and said she did not want to comment on the case in response to a subsequent letter.

Ms Doncheva denied being herself and walked away when approached near her home in Vienna, Austria.

    lol denied being herself

  3. Let me guess they somehow work for the Republican Party

  4. BBC I have a tip for your next case! Look into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue

  5. The article reads like MI5 just gave them the file and told them to name the lot of them.

  6. what is it with women and working for Russia ? so many european far right political parties are headed by women too

in Romania there was a rumor that makeup influencers are supporting the far right candidate, why would anyone do that ? or maybe they’re just the ones that are getting caught

  7. No doubt that there are plenty of cells going around in EU, causing disinformation, espionage, sabotage etc. But hopefully they won’t succeed, these days we need to be vigilant.

  8. Now that Trump knows who they are, they will soon be working for the Trump administration

  9. I knew it! She is way too hot and out my league when she first approached me, and then suddenly ghosted me when I described my job and how low I am in the totem pole.

  10. That Vienna is still a big city for spies is so surreal.

  11. That’s nothing – we have active Russians Sympathizers in the White House and congress.

  12. At this point we have to realize that Vienna’s suburbs are the spy headquarters of the KGB.

  13. Me as a Bulgarian: ‘oh please don’t let them be Bulgarian, please don’t let them be Bulgarian’

After reading the aerticle: ‘yes, they are Bulgarian’

  14. I really wish we’d bring back executing spies. It’s way too low risk being one.

  15. Is it me or I feel when the west catches spies, all they get is a slap on the wrist if they even get arrested or punished at all, meanwhile Russia would just make any spy they find have an “accident” or a window related “incident”?

  16. Sentence them to helping to bring down Trump plus generating ideas for new James Bond movies.

Seriously: The real problem is Putin being such a jerk. If he were being reasonably practical and humane, these spies’ work would be a curiosity.

He’s betrayed their energy, cleverness and patriotism by wasting his country’s resources on ego-boosting cruelty.

  17. Now they’re going to accidentally fall out of a window of a tall building.

  18. Gotta love bbc journalism…

“Hi, i’m from the bbc, are you a russian spy?”

    “oh they hung up”

  19. daaammmm… spyonage is not like it used to.
Back in the day white mouse was doing far better work.

  20. We really gotta start spelling out these things instead of abbreviating. This was not the BBC I was hoping for when I came here to read the article

  21. I would give them the BBC if you get what I means

  22. If they are Americans, they will be pardoned by President Trump.

  23. Damn, I need to learn to speak Russian, these two can spy on me anytime they want.

  24. Took me a minute to realize what BBC this was referring to
