  1. >A reckless 18-year-old driver left her victim hospitalised for five weeks with 17 fractures after crashing her brand new BMW into her at 60mph on a quiet residential street in an affluent part of Cardiff. Nadine Alfadhli, of Llanrumney, who is now 20, collided with Angela Glossop at Bronwydd Avenue in Cyncoed while showing off to her three friends in the car a month after she passed her test, Cardiff Crown Court heard on Monday.

    >Alfadhli, who is a law student at the Open University, was told by Judge Shomon Khan that she would likely never be able to practise as a result of her foolish actions on the day she nearly killed Ms Glossop who had been making her way home from work on October 19, 2023.

  2. And the sentence she got is the reason this keeps happening.

  3. >Judge Khan also imposed 240 hours of unpaid work and 15 rehabilitation activity requirement days. The defendant was also disqualified from driving for five years and must then sit an extended retest before she is considered safe to get back behind the wheel of a car.

is that really enough?. another past article claiming girl teenagers would not be sent to youth prisons due to the social impact is really showing here.

    edit: article courtesy of Telegraph:

last thing we need is people driving 60MPH on a 20′ street. let alone without further social impact those incidents which are already upscaling in youth culture would not be well treated

  4. Setting aside the awfulness of this, it’s really refreshing to see a headline that makes it clear that the person driving the vehicle is responsible for what the vehicle does.

  5. the only positive point is that her university course is now pointless and that she will be unable to use it as intended, as for the sentence, zero deterrent to any of her friends who do the same.

had it been 10 years, the message would have gone out

  6. This shows why speed limits are ineffective. People will drive faster on a wide road that’s a 20mph than a narrow / traffic calmed road that’s a 60mph. Just changing the sign isn’t enough.

  7. We should just ban BMW. They have a special affect of performing a lobotomy on its drivers the second anyone sits in one.

  8. Sounds like the car was bought on motability too, as Alfadhli was allegedly a “carer” for her mum who bought the car

  9. Can we completely reassess the right to drive a 2 ton metal brick capable of going above 100mph.

It’s not a right, it should be a privilege.

Those caught flagrantly breaking the rules, endangering lives should be permanently banned from driving.

Those caught hurting or killing someone should be in prison and permanently banned.

It’s absolutely bullshit I could kill someone with my car, and get a suspended sentence…

Then I could just take a test in 3 years and be back behind a wheel.

    That is just embarrassing…

  10. > Young woman, 18, put victim in hospital for five weeks with 17 fractures after incident in BMW given to her by her mum

It’s quite remarkable that regardless of sexes, people driving certain cars bring out the animals in them…

  11. You would hope this will haunt her forever and completely change her attitude when she gets back behind the wheel.

  12. I sentence you to a fake sentence where you spend zero time in jail. Now go home, order a pizza, watch TikTok and think about what you’ve done. But don’t put any hurty words on social media or I’ll jail you for 25 years.

  13. Nadine Alfadhli

Guess it isn’t just the males who drive like idiots

  14. One of the reasons I’d buy my kid a regular car is to drive home the point that it is about getting from A to Z.

I’d have reckless drivers put in prison for life if money and resources were not an issue. I don’t give a fuck about giving people second chances when their recklessness presents such a grave risk to others.

Still, I can’t help but think parents are setting up their kids for failure when they gift them with a dangerous piece of machinery that ultimately they will want to show off.

  15. That expensive insurance premium is about to get even more expensive

  16. The fact she can’t practice as a lawyer is a damn good bit of karma. Thank god for that because our court’s punishment was a bloody joke.

  17. Start throwing them in jail, along with the people who gave them the car, and let’s see how fast things change. She should never be allowed to drive again, and she should be covering all expenses of her victim got life.

  18. Wonder what car it was. They only ever seem to say BMW which obviously doesn’t mean much. She’s a dick but if it was a 116i then that’s nothing special. If it was an M140i then her mother is a dick for thinking that it makes sense for a new driver to have one.

Just curious, but either way I’m glad she won’t be behind the wheel for quite some time.
