I found this letter tucked in a book that I picked up from a charity shop. I've redacted the personal information. What struck me with this was the neatness of the handwriting and the heartfelt plea for forgiveness. This snapshot tells only a fragment of what must be a more complex series of events. You could probably take this in many ways, but all of them are sad and probably horrible.

That’s really fricking sad 🙁
Reading this broke my heart wtf
I had a close family member imprisoned years ago, this is the type of letters they’d send home to us. They were sentenced to life & got released early with good behavior, they’re a completely different person now.
Hoping this person got the happy ending they wanted in the end, they seem genuinely remorseful. Obviously can’t comment on the crime.
And of course that handwriting is a work of art, a brill wee hing to keep a hold ah!
Amazing bit of social history. Hope things improved for the poor guy. Absolutely beautiful handwriting though.
Reminds me of the collection of letters from children to inmate parents at the Peterhead prison museum. Tough to read them.
Who tf spells impossible with two M’s?
Really nice handwriting. Post on/foundpaper
The writing looks influenced by Tom Gourdie’s style. Was the prisoner from Fife or Angus, post-WW2?
