  1. It’s honestly criminal that we allow countries to dump waste on third world nations and just expect them to deal with it. Countries should have to process their own recycling and refuse.

  2. Not surprising. Our own councils burn household waste in waste to energy plants in the city centre.

For example, in Nottingham businesses have to pay £300 per year per parking space to discourage driving, but you can see the chimney not far from the city centre where they burn plastic, nappies, etc by pouring fuel over it.

Can’t really criticise India when we do the same.

  3. Good that this is reported but ….colour me surprised /s

  4. Met a friend of a friend in the waste business once. Let’s just say I no longer worry about separating my trash. Fraud is widespread, loads of people in the trade don’t do what they say with the waste.

  5. It makes sense to send something back on the ships that bring us goods from that area, and it’s the Indian companies that aren’t recycling them. Plus the guy they’re interviewing isn’t exactly a neutral party. Not sure we’re the most at fault here.

  6. We’re becoming “green” by outsourcing all our responsibilities. It’s not going to end well.

  7. Yeah most recycling gets shipped to India or China to be burned. It’s a sham designed to shift the responsibility of “saving the planet” on to the consumer and to make us feel better. It’s the same with these “bags for life” you have to pay for, yet these giant international companies use mountains of plastic in their production lines which ultimately ends up burnt or in the ocean.

  8. Why aren’t they naming the source companies? I’ve replaced a few tyres at Halfords over the last few months. £3 recycling fee for each tyre. I’d like to know if I’ve been mis-sold and whether I’m entitled to a refund.

  9. Well, least we will have net 0, india can take one for the team =d
