WELL HELP YOU FROM GETTING SCAMMED. SUSIE FOGARTY WITH SMART GEN SOCIETY IS HERE WITH ADVICE. SO. TECHNOLOGY IS IMPACTING EVERY GENERATION IN GOOD WAYS AND BAD WAYS. ONE OF THE WORST IS BEING SCAMMED. ABSOLUTELY. YOU HAVE TO TRUST THE SOURCE THAT IT’S COMING THROUGH. IF IT’S COMING THROUGH YOUR EMAIL AND THEY WANT YOU TO OPEN SOMETHING, DON’T OPEN ANYTHING. IF IT’S AN EMAIL ADDRESS THAT YOU DON’T KNOW OR IF THEY’RE TRYING TO GET YOU TO GIVE THEM MONEY, AUTHENTICATE THAT EMAIL ADDRESS. THE OTHER SCAMS THAT WE SEE A LOT RIGHT NOW, THOUGH, OUTSIDE OF JUST THE EMAILS, IS THE PHONE CALLS. NOW THERE’S A THING CALLED DEEPFAKE AI VOICE OVERS. THEY ARE ABLE TO TAKE, ESPECIALLY IF KIDS VOICES ARE OUT THERE ON THE WEB. THEY CAN TAKE THAT PARTICULAR VOICE AND USE IT AGAINST A PARENT, AND THEY’RE GOING AFTER GRANDPARENTS. AND THESE KIDS ARE CALLING, THINKING THAT THEY ARE STRANDED SOMEWHERE AND THEY NEED MONEY. SO WHAT WE’RE ASKING PEOPLE TO DO IS AUTHENTICATE THE LOCATION OF THE PERSON THAT’S TRYING TO CALL YOU. IF THEY SAY IT’S A GRANDSON OR A FAMILY MEMBER, JUST SAY, GREAT, I’LL HANG UP THE PHONE AND I’LL CALL THAT FAMILY MEMBER AND GET YOU THE HELP THAT YOU NEED, BUT NEVER RESPOND TO ANYTHING OR ANY SCAM THAT SAYS YOU NEED TO GO TO THE ATM AND TAKE OUT MONEY AND GIVE A MONEY ORDER IS ANOTHER THING. OR GO AND PICK UP GIFT CARDS FROM AN APPLE STORE IS ANOTHER ONE. THOSE ARE ALL FAKE, AND WE’RE SEEING MORE OF THEM AS WE’RE ON OUR PHONES. MORE. ABSOLUTELY. AND THAT IS THE RISK. SO YOU NEED TO BE REALLY MINDFUL OF EVERYTHING THAT YOU CONSUME ONLINE. WOW. AND THIS IS ALL AGE GROUPS, ALL AGE GROUPS, YOU KNOW, ESPECIALLY LIKE OKAY GRANDPARENTS AND STUFF. BUT EVEN YEAH, EVEN IN THE GAMING INDUSTRY, I ALWAYS TELL KIDS, NOBODY IS GOING TO SEND YOU MONEY IN THE MAIL. NOBODY’S GOING TO SEND YOU AN IPHONE IN THE MAIL. THAT’S A SCAM. OKAY.
