  2. Goes along with report yesterday that they are also paying school girls $1200 to have children to boost the birthrate. Stealing children is way more cost effective.

  9. Before I was born, Canada did something similarly horrible with Indigenous kids. China was also doing something similar with Uighurs. I’m pretty sure this qualifies as a genocide.

  13. The whole world is suffering from the age demographic bomb. This will become more common. In the future, people looking back will think that anti-immigration policies would be the most stupid short sighted thing given the massive decline in birth rates. All countries are becoming retirement homes. Japan, China, Germany, South Korea, and Italy were just the first ones up.

  14. Meanwhile, a cohort of the uninformed, the misinformed, and the flatly pro-Russian will blithely muse, “Well, Ukraine should just give up some land in order to have peace.”

    But this is what happens in the land that Russia occupies. Amongst all the other crimes and outrages, Russia abducts Ukrainian children and sends them to “re-education camps”.

    Ukraine is not fighting a war over mere square kilometres of dirt. They are fighting for territory, as much as anything, because Ukrainians live on that territory, and how they will be treated if that territory becomes Russian is a fate that most in the Western World don’t want to even try to imagine.

    There are lots of other reasons to reject the pro-Russian “Land for Peace” proposition, including that fact that the peace is almost certain to last only as long as it takes Russia to regroup to invade again. But child abductions on occupied territories is another one for the list.

  31. Keep in mind, this is only the part of the ukrainian genocide that we know of. How many people were affected by russian occupation might be impossible to know right now, though satellite images of mass graves in mariupol may give us some idea.

  37. Isn’t this old news? I remember reading about this for at least the last year or so. Kill the adults, kidnap the kids and ship them off to Russia, put them in ‘foster families’ (who likely treat them like crap) and punish them if they speak Ukrainian.

    Utterly infamous. This, all by itself, is enough reason so far as I’m concerned to capture Putin and drag him by his heels into The Hague to be prosecuted for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

  39. Well, we used to be following and documenting all of this closely, but funding was taken from that, and it was ordered to be shut down. I remember all day when we stood proud as the country who policed the world to keep this crap from happening!!!
